Alrighty then, we''ll be headed down under soon, if the volcanic ash clouds don't cancel our flight! Really looking forward to it, and looking forward to the game (match?).

One last question: Do we have to riot if there is an objectionable free kick, or is that optional for out of towners? I really try to observe local custom.

Loud booing is compulsory if ANY free kicks are awarded against the red-and white team; loud cheering if they're awarded against the black-and-white team. You'll get the idea.

        Can do!

I have a history of booing loudly at many stateside college football and basketball games, and of course cheering my teams to victory!

I will expect the Swans to validate our support with a victory!

Just roll with the noise coming from the red mob.

Not all of us are nice and polite, some more so than others, so just enjoy the ride; have NO idea what to expect this game. Collingwood is our black spot, we played a very ordinary game last week, so we are either going to roll them, or they are going to kill us.

          Good luck with the Cloud.

One great thing we have been able to maintain over the 100 years + of Australian Rules Football is the passion of the fans for their team ... but at the same time we all walk in together and out together (if we stay till the end) and normally sit beside opposition supporters who accept that you have a different view on the umpiring !

Rarely is there a problem in the crowds ... most banter is good nature d .. even when Collingwood is involved !

I would have quoted both of the above threads but for inability.

However, what I intended to say is that the fan support is what really makes a sporting match come alive. As a 45+ year Kentucky Wildcat Blue Blood, I am convinced it is all about backing the team that is the fun. Play hard, cheer hard, and when its all over, walk out shoulder to shoulder and share a pint or three! Okay, there are a few teams we love to hate. Perhaps Saturday's opponent fits that mold?

Geez you've picked a great game to go to....against a team we havent beaten for 6 years, which will continue this week, dare I say, by a large margin.

On top off booing any free kicks against the Swans you should stand up once during the game when a free kick is given close to where you are sitting and yell as loud as you can in your American accented voice at the umpire "You blind maggot".. That should get a a good laugh

You do realise RY that if your presence on Saturday night coincides with an improbable Sydney win, you will be expected to stay down under until the first Saturday in October...

                      hahahaha

                      We're practicing it now.

I should point out that my American accented voice has a VERY strong southern Appalachian twang to it, so it might provide some comic relief

Agree We footy fans are a superstitious lot...

Are we meeting up behind the goals pre-match again?

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Can't get them in Hawaii, anyway, mate.

Guess I'll just have to settle for that Vegemite sandwich.

When at the footy you should eat a dogs eye and dead horse... Though in this case the dead horse bit might be way too real..
