we should have won by plenty our first half was great other than the scoreboard. The second half was crap but we managed to kick goals. We can't afford to play that forward defensive zone against the good sides, it didn't work against the Hawks or Cats & the Pies will destroy us if we let them overlap. This game should have been an easy win but we made it hard.

    1. The Forward Defensive Zone ; They were able to overlap, if it wasn't for such bad skills they could have made us pay ten or times or more, as is they got 2 or 3.
    2. Goalkicking; Just disgraceful, wind or no wind 20 metres out a goal should be kicked, 5 or 6 of ours were on the run 20 metres out
    3. Playing an almost totally defensive game. Last wek against the Lions we played very attacking footy in the first half & destroyed them, unfortunately we went on the defensive in last half. We did have moments when we played attacking footy & we looked good today in those passages.
    4. Centre square clearances are still a problem when the ball goes on the offensive side as we don't set up that side & there always seem to be more opposition players that side. If we set up on our defensive side why if we are winning the ruck do we tap it onto the offensive side. Generally the rucks were good today, Seebs was good I must say. I am not a big fan but he did a great job today.
    5. TDL coming off probably worked as Jetta worked harder in the last. I thought him very lazy if he was being led to the ball today. Last week he was goochased & tackled, he did that in the last today but that is all. he needs to do it all the time.

Reidy was good, very good a long time since we have had a very tall option who can take a great contested mark. Pity about his kicking it is normally very good. ink the coaches are concentrating on other things not skills! I wonder what it is? Fitness, agility? Not goal Kicking that's for sure.

Correct - the zone didn't work all day from kick-ins. Not sure why they persisted other than we had plenty of chances to practice it!

Wow, you are the ultimate "glass half full" fan! A premiership after that display? Sigh...

That said, unlike some other @@@@ty effotrs this year, couldn't question the boys' endeavour or willingness to go the hard ball - polish, skill, enterprise, and flair OTOH were a little harder to find...

it's probably been said, but some goal kicking practice seems to be required.
but on a positive, Alex Johnson is fast becoming one of my favourite players!

AJ had a a good game no doubt. Settling is so well! Last week his disposals were shocking, but he a great all-round game today. Jets was having a shocker though (apart from his goals). Had little to no impact, was shrugged off constantly, and for a man with so much speed, he didn't use it enough to get to the contest and place pressure.

Goal kicking is a real issue. I'm sympathetic towards the fact that we have some youngsters in the forward line and confidence could be a problem, but Adam Goodes is old enough and experienced enough to nail his shots. Especially 35m out on a small angle!

Can anyone verify how many goals Jess has kicked in the last 3-weeks?

Despite the knockers - there is consistent good form there and a strong fwd structure at Etihad - where the deck is always favourable to marking could be an advantage.

Carlton are not a 'big side' but move the ball quickly.

My thoughts are that we could exploit height in attack by bringing in White and rest LRT (as the Blues have a small fwd line with no big target).

I'd also like to see TDL regain his place despite a slow game. I think he is a fair weather player and deserves another run. However I think he might be a casualty this week.

If Mumford is fit - would be hard to knock him back and a White/Mummy sub could be a real weapon (pending no injuries).

I think it might be time to rest Marty for a week too. With Johnston / Kennelly / Shaw & Mal in form - we have a bevy of defensive runners already.

It is great to see Seabs' developing some of his early 2010 form and JPK is starting to hit his straps too.

Despite the knockers - Jetta is a work in progress and one I am happy to persist here.
When he touches the ball something usually happens.

Big pats to Kizza for his last qtr effort - great work!

Look forward to seeing Goodesey atone for a quiet one today - next week. He doesn't usually pull two quiet games together these days.

With LJ, Parker, Sumner, Rohan, Lamb still around the wings there are exciting times ahead.
While we are in a great position this year - I'm right behind Horse blooding as many games into these guys as possible for 2012 & 2013.

We need a quality KP backman to be a contender. As I don't see either Ted or LRT being the man for the job here.

Grundy is solid but needs bigger body support but can't see a ready made answer here right now (note to recruiting staff).

Who knows...with CBolts/Bradshaw off the register next year - we might just be able to attract a target. Although that is becoming increasingly harder each year thanks to GWS and co.

                    Thoughts???

Perhaps we confused Richmond out of it - they didn't know whether they were playing the Kardiak Kids or the Keystone Kops. We had the kind of statistical dominance we had last week against Brisbane, and if we'd kicked straight we would've had a similar sort of margin by the end of the game. In the end Jack had a good quarter and a bit, helped turn the tide and got a harsh reminder about speed of disposal.
I don't want to blame players, except to say go and practise your goal kicking; the goals/behinds could have been the other way around.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

                            AJ was outstanding today.
As was Seaby, Hanners, and Reid (if only his kicking was on today)

Good to see Jack back. Amazing how out of touch a player can get in a matter of weeks.
The ball he passed off, he normally would have kicked.
And that HTB whilst waiting for Kennelly. But still good to have him back.

Finally just getting warmth back into the body. Relief at the result but jeez we made it hard for ourselves.

Very impressed with Seaby today. If he continues to play like that Horse will have to keep him when Mummy returns.

Hanners and AJ were the other standouts today. AJ is a bloody gun and shows so much poise for a young bloke. Great to see Kizza back as well. Our midfield looks classier with his inclusion.

As for the goal kicking... Cue the swear filter....

I won't harp on about the goal-kicking... the lads need a bit of practice this week!

I continue to be impressed by a couple of the young guys. AJ, from the time he debuted, has looked like he BELONGS in a senior team. Plenty of composure and very solid. Sammy Reid, kicking notwithstanding was again impressive in the way he is able to read the play and take big marks. ROK was certainly turning back the clock, and some very tough work in there by Hanners and Joey.

I think the frustrating part of it was that the general play was so good, and we were having so many chances to put the Tigers away that the missed shots were real wasted oppotunities.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....
