And it came to pass as it was foretold, and a navy blue pestilence afflicted the people sorely.
Among our better players: Johnson (we sat next to Marty's parents and his dad thought Alex was our best), Bird, Goodes when he went to the midfield, Smith, Seaby, LRT, Jetta as sub, Reg, Marty, Ted, and Jack had his moments.
But however good they were, Carlton was better, and I will disagree with some others here and say that despite our problems with forward structure, we lost it in the midfield. Bird largely stopped Judd when he was on him, but we couldn't manage Murphy, Robinson and Co. on top of Judd. And Kreuzer is a very good player. Their skills are superior: their handballing and field kicking is in another class above, their positioning to receive is better, and so it goes. They created opportunities that the best defence could not stop.
The umpiring was every bit as bad as people have said (Judd throwing the ball to a goalkicker particularly irked me), but having said that, it didn't cost us the game. We are just not there yet.
Let's see if the boys can regroup for next week. Not that I expect to win, but I'd like to see us give it our best shot.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Probably should wait two weeks. We will be bouncing back off from the Pie's game to smash the Crows. All of a sudden we will be hoping to sneak in the top 4 again.

My major concern (tipping aside) is Horse's coaching. I don't necessarily doubt him but I don't know where he wants to take us.

I thought Goodes tried to the final siren.
Smith was outstanding and I was so glad to see him have such a fabulous game against Betts. Reid is fantastic and continues to look dangerous. I don't agree he looks tired. He was working all game and best of all isn't afraid of the contest. Hanners is a little champion. Even when he gets beaten he jumps up and is straight back trying to make up for it.
The gem is young AJ as everyone is saying. What a top sort. Love how composed he is and isn't afraid of taking a couple of risks and being a little daring. We needed someone with fabulous hair to replace Kirky and we've got it.
Carlton were very good today, as much as I don't enjoy saying that, they will be one of the sides others aren't going to want to play in September. It wasn't like we weren't trying but just bustled and hustled for every possession. A bit like we used to do a couple of years ago.

Sure there is great intensity at the ball but there is so much intensity to get the thing they bugger up delivery in the red mist. And no confidence to slot the basic requirement... goals!

One commentator mentioned how our back line likes to work together as a unit. How do you reckon our forward line functons as a unit?
Our forward line worked best as a unit when White and TDL where there. TDL would play off White's great leaps and scraps and turn them into goals. Hopefully they return for next week

Pretty much the perfect summation. We had more clearances the stats say and that would be from centre bounces (hardly) around the ground bounces and throw ins, however, time and again when the ball was in dispute they were much more ferocious at the footy and forced the ball from our possession. They were very quick and pounced on our blokes unmercilessly to cause a turnover. When they did that they always had someone outside the contest for a handpass and others running running forward of the play. This constantly caught our players flat footed and off the pace. It just seemed too easy. We were really exposed for pace today. We were simply beaten by a far superior team and it appears on performances so far we are about 5 goals off the best teams.

I thought Bird did very well on Judd and it was only in the 3rd quarter when Bird had a spell that he got a goal and telling possessions, unfortunately for us it was when they were tearing us apart.

Again, shows how far away we are from a top 4 side.still a lot of young guys, but...
AH was great early, again. Smith is a champion.
                  JPK is a gun.
                  Kreutzer is a @@@@ing superstar.
I'd give up mummy, seaby and puke for him. Killed us today.
Actually they killed us without Judd, in the first half.
                  Disappointing result, but not unexpected.

After the game Bevan and Jetta were running laps and it occured to me that Bevan is no less of an option up forward than TDL and others, simply because he gives a contest and knows where to run to create on the forward line, and he kicks goals.

By the way Jetta finished doing laps at 5.30pm.

That's why I thought "who will play on Judd thread" was funny.

GWS apparently offered Kreuzer more money than GC paid Ablett. Now you know why.

Just arrived home, havent read all posts but the last page abviously is a snapshot of the previous 16. What awaits us next week its too hurtful to think about. One of the worst decsions by the coaching panel was to syb Seaby when Richards could just shuffle from just before quarter time, obvciously had a jab at quarter time after going down the tunnel didnt see him come back but was on the bench when the 2nd qrt started. He couldnt run for the last couple of qrts. The kicking for goal is atrotious. its no wonder the players up the field get "pis' of when our better plaers are spraying shots for goal. When Goodsy kicked the first one we though beaut the yips may be over, an Kieran bounced one through and we thought great, but too see goodes mcglyn mummy miss everything was devastating, how could they miss by so far.
We need to let Adam G run loose wheb he went onto the ball he played better but as the focal point he drops simple marks and fumbles terribly. Think its time to bring back Jesse and aay you've got yhe rest of the year to show us what yoy are made of ,put Sammy R at chf and play TDL as a roving forward opposite Benny. The other option for Jesse is play him at CHF and tell him just go for it and clear the ball. We need to get some pace back into the side and is JB continues like today dont worry about signing a one year deal Jude its finished. So disappointed today after travelling to Sydney for the previous calss we were hopeful today as I thought the interchange infrigement which wasnt was the catalyst for Carltons win. I cant keep going on but we all need to improve inc the selectors and coaches.

All true and Kreuzer was just unstoppable today. However, look at the stats in No 14's post. We spent plenty of time inside 50 and just didn't convert, again.
