57-nil in favour of bringing back TDL!

Either it's an incredible hive-mind on this board or the selectors just can't see what is so obvious to individual fans. TDL can be such an exciting player up front, sometimes it's just good for the club to inject some excitement to please the fans. Guaranteed TDL has a better nose for the ball than the big Jesse.

I hope he plays this week because our forward line is pretty ordinary but I don't think he'll be the saviour.
Not quite true kicked 2 & 1 in very low scoring games also helped in another 4 goals. Not quite fit enough so back to the 2's after all he has been recovering from an injury. Now fully recovered as he was only scoring 5 goals a game then he is now averaging (in the last 2) 10. I did notice we have brought others into the team too early recently & they are now injured again. I have been a big shouter to bring him back but the blokes who see the resies Al & Ugg & other resie watchers assure me he has not been chasing like he should because of lack of condition. At his fittest & best this bloke is a 1st 22 player

No, he kicked 1 of 17 in a smashing of Brisbane. He then kicked the first against Richmond and did nothing after that. As I said, I'm happy enough for him to come in but he contributed very little in both games.

He stars in a sub-standard (compared to AFL) competition and kicks 12 goals in a whitewash. That means great delivery. On a (supposedly) dry ground. During the day. Against mediocre opposition. He deserves something. He did a great job.

I sincerely doubt he would have had the same impact on a wet, dark night in Adelaide. And we would have all been lamenting his non-performance and using excuses like "the delivery was not good", "the defense was weak", "we were beaten in the middle". And TDL would once again be the one with bad numbers and another stint in Canberra. TDL will be great, given time, right now he is just good and shows a lot of promise.

              I voted unsure.

This is a ridiculous point. They're effectively saying nothing players can do in the reserves can win them a game at senior level....why even play? Why not just let them train - apparently that gives a better indication.

What happens if he kicks 15? 20? 30?

Come and watch a reserves game and you'll realise why they need to use other criteria to assess whether the good form would translate to the AFL. Example: You're a coach, what do you do in this scenario, Player kicks 15 goals against virtual witches hats but is a passenger in the 4th Qtr because he couldn't run the game out. Also you note during the game his unwilligness to chase and tackle to make sure the defenders don't take the ball away with ease and set up play down the ground. Does this player come in to your team the next week??

Have already said that in my opinion TDL has got to a point where he has done what has been asked and probably deserves a recall.

Playfair also said earlier in the week that TDL has to run games out which suggests his fitness has been suspect this year. To my eye he seemed to do that on the weekend but I guess my observations might not be shared by the coaching staff.

Horse said in the article that he's close so I take from that TDL is doing all the things required of him.

We have to remember he's a small forward and won't get the same latitude at AFL level that he's being afforded in the NEAFL. He has to bring something else to the table especially the way footy is played at the moment.
I thought Horse was more positive about TDL in the video than the article reflected. He was careful to keep the NEAFL performance in perspective, but wasn't as dismissive as I was expecting. He also didn't say anything about his defensive pressure being lacking, so maybe he has finally passed the bar.

Also, Henry's comments seem to clear the way for a selection...
?It was a good all-round game from Trent actually,? he said.

?Some of his pressure got him some goals as well, which is what we are trying to ram home with him, so it was really pleasing to see him bring together a good four-quarter game in all aspects that we?ve been working on with him.?

I am pretty hopeful he'll get a run. And why not against GC, who have a less experienced list overall? If it happens, we've now put a lot of pressure on the kid, so he'd better not mess it up...

I get the impression for the wrong reasons. With the liklihood of Malceski, Jack, Mumford and Smith to return it may be a little doubtful that TDL will get a look in with only Bird as the enforced replacement. If you assume Everitt goes for Smith , that still leaves two to drop which are probably White and Parker (although personally I would take out Bevan).

Obviously he got it from kicking too many goals.
