When we get it right we look awesome but the problem against the Bombers,Geelong and even Carlton is the maintenance for the full time.Whether it is fitness or concentration we often can not maintain this style for a full match and when we drop the plan the opposition score against us. This inconsistency perhaps reflects the number of youngsters in the team. If we ever keep the pressure up for a full game we can beat anybody. Whatever the reasons for being unable to keep the pressure up needs to be carefully worked on in these last weeks .A premiership could depend on it.
I am not sure it is the young players going out of the game. In several games this season Hannas, Lukie, AJ, Kizza (he is still a young player), Joey & Jets were the ones who ignited us when we needed it. I think it is playing the game plan for a whole match and not falling into the old game plan that is more of the problem. Every time we regress to the defensive style we lose ground and the opposition comes back. It lost us the game against Adelaide and also the Saints. We nearly blew it against the Saints the second time around even though being the far superior team all day. Each time we have regressed back to the defensive style and it has been costly.

I have been shouted down for making this observation Scott and I applaud you for making it. It is a very valid observation and we don't shepherd enough. I have noticed that the younger blokes do but many of our older guys don't. Under Roos it was not a priority but Longmire has reintroduced it. That is mainly because of the cattle he has at his disposal. Pykie, Mummy, Kizza, Teddy, Reggie, Lukie, Joey, Hannas & Smithy are all natural in this area. They just do it but a lot of the older guys don't do it automatically Bolts would be the only one I think of the older crew who shepherds automatically.

I don't agree as to get the extra man many times needs players to run interference, in other words shepherd players out. This is needed on many occasions for a player to get a burst of speed up and put mileage between him and the opposition to set the spread up.

The Hawks use it to perfection in close and then free up players to run and spread.

Hawks can't run and spread on the SCG... no where to go!!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Didn't stop Franklin from kicking 6 last time he played on the SCG.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

There wasn't much need for run and spread last time. They took it straight out of the middle and banged it into the F50. Again...and again...and again!
