I can't defend Jetta in any way. He was as soft as they come. The HTB gainst Kennelly in the 3rd quarter was as bad as it gets. Downright embarrassing. He has lost it big time.
Why is it at the MCG we get the ball in the middle and go sideways?
Went with a Richmond supporter who said in the first half you are going bad if Richmond beat you out of the centre. With the forward press as it is these days once it gets in our backline we are horrid at trying to go forward. At centre bounces Richmond was ferocious at the footy and in general play we were almost always second to the ball.
What was fairly obvious today is we as a club must be ruthless with players who are not up to it. Some hard decisions need to be made.
Why would you have Parker as your sub instead of Jetta and why sub off Meredith and leave on the lamentable Jetta.
LRT is a backman, full stop.
Riewolt played deep in the forward line on Richards and we had Grundy at the full back line where he is incredibaly vulnerable. Grundy was found out big time. So many times we tried to run it out from the full backline and Richmond sat a wall of players around 20-30 metres out.
Use the nadjet coaches and put LRT back at full back and Grundy CHB.
To me these players could only be described as poor: Bolton, McVeigh, McGlynn, Jetta, Kennelly, LRT, Grundy, Bird.
Jack got stats but has lost his burst.
I can't agree with others on Mumford. I thought he worked bloody hard all game. It's not his fault if our midfielders were crap at stoppages. Yes there were times when he got double handed hitouts but why wasn't there someone at the fall of the ball other than Richmond players.
Hanners field kicking was ordinary at times but Kennedy's was worse. He seemed to pick out Richmond players time and again, and his tackling was rotten. On the Southern Stand wing at the start of the last quarter he was chest to chest with a Richmond player who had the ball and he just refused to tackle and took the 'soft" option.
The whole side's field kicking and disposal options are poor, and Parker who is probably the best kick in the side sits on the bench. Go figure.
People are starting to question the coach. Perhaps it is fair to say John's slip is starting to show.
Mattner had the Leo Barries again today.

He sounded very definite about next year on 7 Game day last week...........but who knows, if he's not enjoying playing under Horse he may still give it away.

Looking at the draw, on todays performance we will lose to Saints, Cats and possibly only 4 points against Lions.

Freo plays Norf next week so if Freo win we are out of the 8.

Following week, Freo play pies and Norf play Saints. So you would assume both will lose.

Last round Freo play Dogs and Norf plays Tigers, and probable win for both. As bad as the Demons have been they will play Tigers, Suns and Port.

So I think it is pretty safe to say that playing finals now will be based on other teams performances.

I agree with Giant, season ending and still no forward line apart from Reid.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

Bit harsh on Meredith. The soft rooster wearing 32 is the one who should make way.

On Bolton; his form has really dropped away the last 3 weeks. It may be that his end comes quickly as so often happens even if he has signed for 2012. He played today like it was getting hard to keep going. If his form stays this way until the end of the season he must just put up the white flag.
ROK has also lost his edge but is still finding the footy, but gee his disposal has dropped away markedly.

Haven't really moved beyond the sheer depression associated with that performance. It was like the players and coaches saw goodes take the speccie in the first quarter and thought let's just set it up at about mid flank and see who else can pluck one. I haven't read the whole thread, don't need or feel like it really. I think we played our final last week and are playing at about our level - a mid table team. We are not cellar dwellers nor are we really competitive with good teams. And away from home we are just pitiful. To think we played both Adelaide and Richmond into form is seriously disheartening. And if truth be told our performances against gold coast and port flattered. I don't know whether it was players or coaches but if the tactic was to try for a pack mark every time coming out of defence it was simply embarrassing. And somebody, coach or players should get a bollocking for it. And we were so slow - to see Richmond players continually running free from Bolton, rok, mcveigh Bird, even jack and hanners etc was just terrible.

Based on what did you expect to make top 4 and at what point in the season? Was never on the cards with Bolts and Braddy out.
Fair go mate. You can't blame people for being fed up and over how crap we are.

In 2009 we didn't make the finals, In 2010 we made the finals and weren't too far away from making the prelim, at the start of 2011 I think it would of been completely fair for fans to expect a push for the top 4 given our vast improvement in 2010 and where we ended up that year.

People should look at last year again. Our final position flattered us. After the Melbourne game we were seriously in doubt of making the finals. In the end we jagged the dogs as lake had started to fall over. We barely beat a pisspoor blues side. We had exactly the same result as against the tigers last year.

Having said that the coaching staff (and all those on this website who continually called for it) have stuffed us around with the daft decision that lrt is actually a ff and resting ruck. What a laff.

I have just returned home after copious quantities of coffee, sedatives probably would have been better. The scene was set today, a fine day the G looking wonderful the best red and white turnout of the year, and the team served up absolute disgusting drivel. The team looked cold from the start, our setupo was pathetic, zoning their kickouts was rubbish, we spent the first ten minutes in our defensive 50, our forward setup was as usual non existent.

Look we are a bit of an ordinary side but what we all expect from the Swans is a red hot dig. What we do not expect is the embarrassing excuse for a game we showed up with today. Tadgh gone, Jetta MUST be dropped, if LRT is played again at full forward then are we are truly devoid of invention, play the kids I'd much rather a youngster make a mistake and learn than see the experienced players turn the ball over time and again. Grundy should have a long hard look at himself does not seem to have much apetite for the contest if it's an injury then rest him, if its psychological then send hime the way of Barlow.

At one stage ROK's efficiency by foot was 17%. And I don't think it improved much from then. Problem with ROK is that when he is not in and under, when he actually has time and space on the ball, he kicks it like he is in close. He has no patience about him at all. I always hear comments about how the great players seem to have time on their hands. When a champ has the ball it's like everyone else is in slow-mo. Poor ROK has lost his nerve. He just has no time on him at all and throws his boot to the ball immediately without thinking. Consistent turnovers. If he was playing for the opposition each week he'd probably be leading the Brownlow count right now ( a bit rough but it's one of those days : ) ) And I reckon that period where he was getting pinged for holding the ball too often has sent him down this path. He's getting some ball ROK, just needs to use it better. Definitely not the worst today though.

I typed my thoughts on today's game, but the swear filter removed 99% of it.

Basically, no fwd line, crap kicking, put the back line under all sorts of pressure.
Tigers played pretty ordinary today, and still smashed us. Sigh.

On Jetta - I think he has been promoted far too quickly to the seniors - could do with a full season in the reserves to develop in size and ticker.

Cannot see Tadgh playing on next year.

You need a bloke like Jesse White - but with fwd pressure and presence - to step up next year.... take a bit of the heat and delivery off Reid (who is awesome IMO)

From the reports and from whats been written here I'm so glad I went to Canberra. After last weeks effort to have such an insipid effort is mind boggling.

Having said that, we're a proud club so I would expect a massive effort next week against the Saints. Maybe some fresh faces who are willing to bust a gut like Rohan,Nipper and Lamb should come into the side.
