He is described as a pacy, outside wingman with good skills, so he fits the bill of the type of player we are a bit short on. The challenge for Potter and Thompson is that neither is overly pacy and they are more inside ball-winners, so would be at the end of a long queue.

Sounds like Cunningham is pretty light still, so probably a longish term prospect.

So we are taking on half the number of rookies allowed?
      Are we penny pinching?
And what is GWS' story, was Scully senior unable to ID any talent?

I'm sure financial considerations came into it, but I suspect the bigger problem is managing the reserves' team list with the player restrictions in place. We haven't had a big rookie list since the halcyon days of 2005-06 when there were no restrictions in place.

I read on either the AFL website or Herald Sun Draft that GWS didn't pick anymore rookies because they already have an expanded list and some of the guys already there will slot in as rookies later.

Was this rule introduced for the NEAFL?

They apply when we play Canberra (and from next year, presumably SFL) clubs but there are no restrictions when we play the other AFL reserves teams.

Introduced in afl Canberra and carried over to the NEAFL. Doesn't apply when we play fellow afl reserves teams

Ta, just one more disadvantage for the Swans.

How come Greesy Eddies level playing field only applies when the Swans are at an advantage?

Shame for poor Bevo to miss out. I thought he might have had a rookie chance but shows you the mentality of list management today. I think he would have contributed more to GWS than Satan will.

I was hoping Fev might sneak in there with the Swans but will just have to dream what if....................

Good to see Brad join Dean over at the Weagles.

Makes perfect sense, both practically and financially ... restricted numbers of listed players can play the majority of ressies games anyway, so why pay rookies when you have an academy full of free top ups? ... GWS are in the same boat, particularly when they go to Canberra to play ressies, half of the town are members of their academy and the rest are just down the road at Wagga Wagga and Albury.

The only issue for the Swans will be convincing the kids they are not using them ... again, a huge slap in the face to the players, academy managers, selectors and coaches (Roosy?) that they could only get one academy/scholarship player onto the list this year, and in fact ended up taking a GWS reject .... hmmmm?

How is Cuningham a GWS reject, was he at their Academy?
