Biggs is interesting. 6 goals against Chirnside Park in 2010 is not necessarily great form. They played in 4th Division of the Eastern Football League in Melbourne which is pretty much park footy. Chirnside did win the flag to get promoted which is a positive. Must have shown something at the Bendigo Bombers in his 6 games.Comment

Cunningham played 6 games for GWS (one mention in best) and 5 games for RAMS (once in best) ... didn't do enough for GWS, but maybe they were relying on having access to him and monitoring him as an academy top up?
At the State Draft Combine he topped the agility test ... so he is quick.Comment

I am confused as to why we persist with midfieders when our backline needs strngthening. How or why did we overlook Bosely (now at Hawks) for pick 41. Beat Paton in U18s. And why Biggs when we could have gone for a couple of NSW kids like Murphy Biggs cant be any better and if Essendon didnt pick him up what does that say.Comment

By the time you get to the rookie list you are trying to find a couple of nuggets that might improve in an AFL environment. You're not picking the top line talent so it is a case of taking whoever has caught your eye, not recruiting for a specific and immediate need. In any case, Biggs and Cunningham both sound like pacy outside runners, which the list isn't exactly chock-a-block full of.
As for "why pick him when Essendon didn't pick him", if you extend that argument, clubs could find excuses for almost never using late ND or rookie picks.Comment

Bear in mind what the Giants' list looks like going into 2012. They must have 35 or so 18 and 19 year olds on their list, so adding yet another, who needs plenty of development, probably doesn't make much sense. The Swans, on the other hand, have fewer than a dozen in this age group, and several they do have already have AFL senior experience. So we have more development resources available to take a punt on someone like Cunningham. At GWS he would just get lost in the crowd.
There is a short highlights video of Harry now up on the Swans website, and there are just a couple of moments in that where he has distinct echos of his recent mentor, Paul Kelly. There is just something about the slight hunch of the shoulders when he runs, and the bent leg after he has kicked for distance.Comment

now I must warn you this may make you laugh
but after watching Wagga Harry Cunningham play the game .....fair dinkum he runs and plays a lot like the honourable Wagga lord mayor Paul Kelly at the same age
I still remember Paul being the best in his school (same as Harry) and then scooting up to Sydney in 1990?...........from memory Kell won the best and fairest at the Swans the year after Barry Mitchell in approx 1993.......and funny enough we now also have young Barrys son Tom starting at the Swans this year also......twilight zone !
Cunningham has the similar long legs for his height.......similar dash around the ground......similar feet out......... duck feet...........nice over head grab.......and already Goodes is saying he is a goer
well we did have a lunar eclipse the other night and nothing has been the same since !

I'll look forward to watching "Richie" in the Ressies next year to see if he lives up to that hype...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC
