Cheer Squad,
I have been patiently sitting on the sidelines trying to understand any of your arguements. To explain my position...ever since the Swans came to Sydney in which I was 3 at the time, I have only ever missed 4 Swans home games in the 29 years. I spend a lot of my money willingly on my memberships, merchandise and travelling interstate 3-5 times per year to support my club. Ask any of my family, friends and work mates, I am as loyal to the Sydney Swans and as passionate as anyone...
BUT I also love AFL. I am glad GWS is entering the competition to promote our game even further. I am a Primary School teacher in NW Sydney and have watched AFL gradually grow and grow and grow. There are now more AFL footies being kicked around than league ones!
Because I am an AFL supporter too I am becoming a GWS member as well purely and simply so I can see more live AFL in Sydney. I will NEVER EVER support them at any expense of the Swans. When the Swans play GWS, I hope the Swannies wipe them off the park!! However, I want to see AFL grow, succeed and become entrenched in the Sydney culture. I look forward to attending more AFL games live in Sydney in 2012.
That is why I am purchasing a GWS membership as well as my Swannies in 2012.Comment

I'd be interested to learn how the Swans views dual membership, both publicly and privately.
As they're starting from scratch, I suppose GWS will accept support from wherever they can get it. I think they, and the AFL, would probably like all their members to be new at joining an AFL club. That's ultimately the idea behind the expansion.Comment

The Swans no longer have an AFL monopoly in this city and it could get them off their backsides and start treating Swans supporters with a little less arrogance and more benefits.
I doubt it though. The biggest waste of money each year is getting those stupid cheap chinese made caps. I wish they would ask with memberships whether we actually want one. If I have been a member since 97, why would I want to wear a cap that says member since 2011? Hide my bald spot??????? Dont have one !!!!
Cheer Squad, I think you're starting to get the point about having a second team in Sydney. In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.Comment

Thanks for your perspective.

It's why I've said all along that GWS will work with the Swans off the field to grow the game. If they become adversarial off the field then GWS will be a total waste of time and footy in this state will be adversely affected. I look forward to a time when we have a Giants and Swans Grand Final. How good would that be. (I can dream can't I)..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

FYI, I know a few melbournites who have dual memberships.
Main for support for their main club, but also a financial gesture for the other.
In fact Kevin Sheedy had memberships at multiple clubs in Melbourne whilst coaching the Bombers, just as a sign of support for the competition.
All sort s of people, have all sorts of reasons for supporting a club, or 2.Comment

Which membership ticket would you use to get a GF ticket?
Can I have first dibs on the other one please?Comment

A few scary points:
* I follow Manly and Newcastle in the league, am a foundation member of GWS, am a member of the Swans and l like the soccer. How do I do it, I am probably going to explode.
* 5000 of the GWS foundation members would be based in Canberra
* the Chinese made caps were particularly cheap his year
* I'm sure the Swans' survey asked at some stage what type of merchandise you wanted as a member
Didn't we have this conversation in a previous thread ?Comment

We are in the middle of a code war between the AFL and the NRL in western Sydney. If AFL does not succeed, the code in Sydney and the surrounding areas suffers, and that has a flow on effect on the Sydney Swans. If a second AFL teams in Sydney succeeds, that can only be good for the code, which in turn benefits both the Giants and the Swans.
So go the Giants. (except if they get in the way of the Swans).Comment
