Surely the Academy, coupled with the opportunity for the best of those approaching draft age to play in the NEAFL alongside professional footballers, has to be better than a TAC Cup side? NEAFL might be lagging behind WAFL and SANFL but it is a fair way ahead - especially in terms of the size of opponents - than the TAC Cup and SA/WA under 18 competitions.

We just need to give it a few years so that we're judging boys who started at 14-15 and have had the full advantages of the Academy start to come through the system.

What you say is true Liz but a TAC team would give them a chance to compete against their peers on a regular basis without the danger of career ending injuries inflicted by players already mature and in most cases less skilled.

It will probably never happen anyway.

So guys, where to from here with Draft & PSD?

Great effort in Trade Week to pick up Mitchell (Young Mid - big wraps), Morton (Mid/Forward - hopefully a bit of x-factor), Walsh (Forward), Thomas (Half Back - who can kick) for the loss of Lewis Johnston + picks 21, 79. We couldnt have asked for much more in terms of trying to address some of the deficiencies from last season, apart from kicking skills across the board.

For me, after doing so well at Trade Week, the overriding imperative next year is having enough cash under the salary cap to make sure we keep Sam Reid away from GWS no matter what they offer. Does anyone have a feel for how the trade week pick ups effect our salary cap level after Bradshaw, Kennelly, Bolton, etc leaving?

Now the delistings have been done, and assuming Salary Cap for Reid is ok, who do you think we should be looking at? Just picking up young potential picks and hoping for another AJ type to pop up, or are there more on the recycled list that are worth looking at? My preference would be trying to find another speedy outside midfielder.

Is Nason from the Tigers worth a look? He is young and seems to have speed, why did the Tigers drop him?

NO ! He's not fast, and his disposal and decision making is terrible.
If he had short hair very few of us would even know who he is.

I think you mean Tony Armstrong there, but as far as who we should look at I wouldnt mind us picking up Brad Hill as a late pick. At the moment he is an athlete playing footy but clearly has a lot of upside and his draft camp results shows he has both speed and endurance so for mine would be worth a look at.

Thanks, yes meant Armstrong - brain explosion! But I cant seem to edit the mistake.

Do you think Brad Hill will still be around at our first pick (45ish I think)?

Thanks for that, I didn't watch many of the Tigers games but I saw a few highlights he was involved in that must have made him appear better than he is. Probably the hair.

And the last thing we need is more slow players who have poor disposals and are poor decision makers.....

My mail is he has been out of favour because of off field antics.

I think Port's failure to grab Seaby probably marked Currie's cards. Which leaves us with 3 ruckman which could be enough (especially if we only play 1 per game). So in view of the curse that afflicts all Swans Ruck drafties, I think we should find the best up-an-coming big man and give him a masssive boost to his career by simply NOT recruiting him.

Sorry if I am out of the loop during off season but I was reading on Pat Keane's twitter account that the Sydney Swans have not applied for allowance to invite any unlisted players to train with them. Does that mean Cambo is done and dusted? Is there a deadline to the inform the AFL and is that deadline over? I know Horse mentioned something about hoping Campbell would be welcome to come back and train. My knowledge of the process isn't as strong as many other people here so could someone shed any light?

Walsh mentioned (in the recent interview prior to the second IR game) that the Swans start back on 10th November. That may just be the younger players, who they normally get back a couple of weeks before the rest of the squad.

All clubs' permission to train list is here through the Herald Sun. Most clubs haven't (yet) put anyone on the list. At the end is also the rookie list (just Kruger and McNeil on it, which I guess involves no surprises?I admit I haven't been paying attention that closely).
