Was expecting much worse when I watched the video on the Swans website. Was quite impressed with his kicking and handpassing. Will watch this space with a lot of interest.

Actually I thought his handball very awkward but his kicking was very good seing he had never picked up an Aussie Rules ball before the trial. Looks very quick.

For those disappointed Alex came from a small school, I can tell you there were 3 other guys at this camp in California. 2moro from the SEC and one from the Big10, and Alex ran circles around the lot. His desire and work ethic shined is exactly what you would want to see from someone your club is going to sign. This kids was his team captain I'm his sophomore year. That never happens over here.

the school, uni or whatever basketball really doesnt matter now as he is playing football and from what I saw he is a duck to water with natural balance and can kick on the run which is handy !

if he is keen and persistent he could surprise otherwise we wouldnt have bothered me thinks !

Tough part is learning the leads and when not to lead etc and on top of that competing at a level that is professional !

Pyke is great depth and who knows if we didnt pick up the mummy he could have staked a claim in the senior team ?

Good to hear that he was selected over SEC and Big 10 guys (go Hoosiers). However I await the "He wasn't born in Melbourne with a Sherrin under his pillow so how could he possibly play AFL" brigade to pipe up :-)

I'm confused, is he actually going to live and train in Australia this year? Or will he only come back in a years time?

Sounds like he'll split his time this year and move out here next year?

One post suggested he could train with the Academy, but not with the main group.

How does that work and what are the training and playing 'rights' for Academy members?

From what I have seen Academy members get to play in Resies but they are not on the main list in that they are not core or rookies. They can be given rookie status next season in other words 2013.

So he could play some times with the Ressies?

I assume he can play as a top up unless there is some rule that prevents us from choosing him.

The only rule would be does he know the rules. He is an international pickup, and at the moment they have different status. Guess he would be going a Tadgh/MykePyke, and they did ok. Time with George Stone, train with the mob, practice with the ressies.
