Definitely one-sided umpiring, at least for about three quarters.

GWS basically employed a lot of bash-and-crash tactics and flooded (or got "numbers behind the ball") all night. I'm sure this was Sheedy's/William's way of avoiding a blow-out.

Still a much better effort from them than I expected and a much worse one from us. Our forward structure is still sorely lacking but our backline was fairly well organised.

    Disappointing sums it up.
    Well said and I agree!

Ted Richards' take on gman (from twitter):

Great to see so much red and white in the crowd last night. Shame Dr Edelsten is the new GWS mascot though. #gman 301 Moved Permanently

Trust him to come up with that! Never lets me down, Ted.

A very poor display overall...most of our blokes are experienced but the level of ball handling was pathetic...hardly a clean take all night...perhaps the ground was somewhat at fault but if so the drainage must be below par. Brian Taylor was nothing short of a disgrace as lead commentatotr in fact the presentation overall was woeful... to say this is to understae how poor the effort was...they were worse than we were!
Is this what we can expect all year?
I'm afraid I don't see Jetta ever bridging the gap between pace & poise...his decision making & execution is just not good enough. Our forward line is a mess & how Everitt even got picked is a mystery hidden in horse...Morton not doing much should surprise no one...can we do a Swans turn around on him...I doubt it.

That is exactly what I was thinking at various stages throughout the game...it was pretty obvious the Giants have more than a few youngsters in a class above Jetta.

I couldn't help but notice the slickness of their handball skills, especially when their defence was under intense pressure. We don't seem to have players with those kind of skill levels. I suppose that's the price we pay for virtually never getting access to those really high draft picks.

I especially loved the bit where as soon as LRT marked that ball in the 2nd quarter they were already saying he couldn't kick it and then proceeds to slot it from 50. After he put it through I kept fist pumping and saying "Up yours BT" every time BT made a terrible call (Which was quite often...)

I could not have said it better than this quote

"It beggars belief that someone has not fixed Sam Reid's kicking yet. The way he lifts the ball up into the air and then drops it from a height is classic Auskick action. The one he missed from 15 meters out was horrible. In today's game with the rapid kick ins, a point is effectively a turnover, so he needs to fix this fast. Otherwise all the awesome marking is pointless."

He needs to find a kicking coach ASAP who know how to teach.

They said the same about McGlynn's shot.

When I think of Jettas game last night I remember him slicing through a few players and delivering to LRT on the lead. He showed some good signs last night did he not?

He did, but it was against a bunch of first time players!

                          You really think that?

I reckon the GWS song is great and infinitely better than the efforts of the new clubs of the past 25 years. Mark my words, in years to come the 'never' 'surrender' part will be shouted by all the fans in the style of 'yellow and black', even if people don't sing/know the whole song.

I know haters gotta hate, but you'd be better off taking aim at the lame mascot.

The song rocks, imho of course.

Lots of people think it has a sort of Soviet Union feel to it.

Maybe we should all drink vodka in Round 14?

Yeah, we thought the same thing. The song itself has the potential to be one of the better club songs in the AFL (I love the 'never surrender' part), but the arrangement that they have used in this version sounds more like a Russian dance than a victory song!

By the way, what do people think about the new Freo song now that they have dumped the Volga Boatmen intro? The new version actually sounds like something you would want to sing after a win, a much improved effort!

I expected to see cossack dancers performing during the song. Perhaps gman could give it a go?
