    +1

Thought we looked dangerous when we went forward today. The Norf defenders looked all at sea at times. We certainly won the tactical battle in that area.

A very pleasing and overall excellent effort today. Lots of good performances across the park including from some maligned players in our team. A really solid team effort considering the players we had out and losing Rohan early. I loved the pressure we put on them for almost the whole game - a few lax periods, but our forward pressure and midfield pressure was fantastic. North are a much better team this season, but we made them make a lot of poor decisions and look slow at times with our ferocious pressure. Excellent signs if we can start doing it for the whole 4 quarters of a game - it is a trademark of the best teams in the comp, and something we are beginning to emulate.

It has finally clicked with Mr Jetta - he really does look an AFL class footballer now! Very happy to see it, we've all known its in there and its starting to pay dividends now - next step for him is to get more of the ball around the ground, but he is kicking goals and doing his job.

Mr Parker is going to be a star.... the new Jude Bolton indeed! As Jude fades out into the sunset over the next few seasons, we are in good hands with a ready made replacement version.

Then there is that beast in midfielder called Kennedy. Kennedy and Parker have a great understanding may well be Kirk and Bolton Mach 2. No matter how good Hawthorn's midfield may be, they still must rue letting him go - he is rapidly becoming one of the best midfielders in the competition - and what is wonderful is that he does his work so efficiently and well that you don't notice him.

Reid was quiet today, but was well marked, and we didn't really give him a great deal of good 1 on 1 opportunities. I wonder if he is still a bit sore in the shoulder from the injury against Freo. He will bounce back, and he is only a very young man and he will be inconsistent as he learns his trade.

We have a really good mix of youth and experience - but it is the young guys really standing up at the moment. I'm starting to get a really good feeling about this season - we might not have played any true contenders yet, but there is a lot to like about a lot of our football. Good times are comin' I think!

But of course today's great performance was tempered by the injury. I'm devestated for Gary Rohan - poor bugger as he like Jetta was just looking like it was all going to 'click' for him. I'll be very interested to see if the incident is reviewed in lights of Goodes suspension.

Really enjoyable trip up the highway today... there is something brewing in the Red and the White - and I like it a lot!

Rohan's horrific injury really took the buzz out of this win for me. Feel so bad for the kid, but I hope Swans fans rally around him. Maybe a card sent to the club would be a good idea.

Nevertheless, the quality of our depth is what really excited me. Goodes, Mumford, Smith - all top line players who are irreplaceable in our team. Everitt, Armstrong and Seaby gave a good account of themselves though, and certainty didn't hinder the team. Andrejs was really good again which was a pleasant surprise. He's certainly taking his chances this time.

How excited was Tony?! Obvious that he loves this club - childlike joy when he kicked that goal and belted out the song.

Well done to the coaches and the boys. Lots of adversity this week, but they all stood up.

I said the same thing at 4.47 on this thread. I note also the after the bounce gang used the incident to defend the suspension of goodes ! But didn't have a crack at the north player. He really should be cited and if the mrp decides that goodes deserves sanction then this fella should definitely be looked at. But this is the very reason that I said last week goodes should be looked at. These challenges on the player leading with feet are seriously dangerous - and maybe people realise that when a player slides in feet first studs or knees at a players ankles shins or knees they get seriously damaged. Soccer players jump out of the way for a reason but afl players are taught to hold their feet in these situations which adds to the impact

              Some random thoughts:

              - Midfield busted their arses again. Parker, Bird, McVeigh, Kennedy, Jack all had good or great games.
              - We slowed them down terrifically well. They love to run and tried to use the corridor a few times but we managed to really draw them out to the wings and much of that was to do with...
              - Ludicrously good pressure and tackling once again. Led by McGlynn, Jetta, Everitt and of course the midfield. North were jumping at shadows in the 1st quarter.
              - Reid I think is still carrying a bad shoulder. Looked unable to engage properly in marking contests and in turn Delaney smashed him all day.
              - Aside from some bad free against, I was very impressed with Jesse White's game. Created contests, took marks, laid on some brilliant taps (see McVeigh's goal in the 3rd from a stoppage) and just generally looked much more confident in the physical side of his game. Another good step IMO.
              - Jetta was brilliant again. 13 touches but the vast majority were impactful and continues to kick goals. Loving what he's become.
              - Teddy was great again. Not just on Petrie but marshalling defence.
              - Shaw destroyed Harvey. Nothing more needs to be said really. Harvey was getting very frustrated by the end of it. I've always had questions about Harvey when receiving a hard tag and today Shaw did it brilliantly.
              - Seaby did his job and then some. He will always give a contest and more often than not make a good fist of it, but I thought he was particularly good today. I'm an unabashed fan of his and everyone esle should be grateful we have him on our list with Mummy not fit.
              - Good game from McVeigh. Best of the year. Stood up and gave us the direction and skill we needed under pressure.
              - As Cas said, Jude and ROK are taking back seat roles but are doing them well. They each performed a few really subtle pieces of play that were really important. In the 3rd quarter Jude won a 3 vs 1 marking contest at HF that led to a goal and ROK just used his body really brilliantly at times to create space for teammates. I doubt we will see many more games of 30 touches for each anymore, but as forwards they are doing a great job in giving us some real structure. ROK even spent time down back today which was interesting. Looked a bit out of place as a loose man but he got the job done.
              - McGlynn showed how valuable he is. Not just his 3 goals but his tackling and non-stop pressure are as good as you could ask for. We will need him to do keep doing it now particularly with Rohan gone (that was horrific btw, heart-breaking to see it happen)

I know i'm the worlds biggest Jesse hater BUT 13 possessions and not one scoring shot plus 5 out of 22 frees against does not look wonderful for a key forward. Admittedly he did look better and he had 13 hit outs but i'd still have Spangher,LRT or even Walsh ahead of him.

And before anyone says it I know stats don't mean everything and haters gotta hate.

It will be interesting to see if the MRP will be consistent(i doubt it). It was Thomas who slid in. Poor Rohan hopefully he sticks with it and gets himself right for next year.

its funny I thought Sam Reid has two weeks in a row been the best decoy in the AFL

he lead to areas that caused the spare defender to go with him and left one on ones where our guys knew to kick the ball................perfectly !!!!

didnt anyone else see that too ?

Absolutely. His foot basically snapped off at the ankle, one of the worst-looking injuries I've ever seen.

Very brave to give the thumbs up on the stretcher, he probably would've been in shock.

Gary's got some very tough surgery & rehab ahead of him -- I really really wish him the best for a full recovery.

According to the AFL website, Gary was at fault for "... falling awkwardly in a tackle ...".

Slid in feet first. If the MRP don't charge him we should storm the Bastille.

That's the first viewing (and last I've seen of that - sickening) and if that was soccer it would be a straight red card and a several game ban. It deserves a look and maybe a suspension - it was an unlucky injury, but it doesn't matter the sport, you should not be diving in like that.

J white very good, good pressure, set up a few goals and rucked very well. Best overall performance in red and white IMHO. Coaches would be very happy with his effort and work rate.

First time I've seen that. Urgh ugly.

Also noticed that the umpire actually penalises Rohan for getting Thomas high and plays advantage to the Kangas.
