And I don't like recycled either. Umm..

Rehomed? Reinvented. Redirected. Appreciated. Upgraded? Brought in from the cold? Redirected?
Believed in? Stolen from under their blind freddy eyes?

Ok winning a brownlow or almost must count. Teasdale won one. Round was ok The Whale Roberts almost won one. Healy and Williams won Brownlows as well. Roos was a recycled player as well.

Recycled? Discarded? I'll jump on the haters bandwagon for these terms. It implies that the clubs that traded them away weren't aware of their value whereas this isn't always the case.

Look at players like Mumford & Kennedy. Couldn't get a game at their respective clubs. If they were playing firsts every week, would they have come to Sydney? I seriously doubt it. Does this mean they were discarded? I don't think so.

In Kennedy's case, I think Hawthorn would have held onto him if they could, but they already had one of the best midfields in the comp. So although he had potential, he was not the sort of player they needed, so they traded.

In Mumford's case, Geelong fought very hard to keep him, but we were able to offer him a fantastic deal. They already had a very good ruckman in Ottens although I think they might have misjudged mumford in comparison to blake.

Interest question - do the Swans have more players from other clubs than any other club in the AFL? Looking at who has played for us this year...

          Richards
          Mattner
          Armstrong
          McGlynn
          Kennedy
          Seaby
          Everitt
          Mumford
          Shaw

out of 25-6 or so players that seems like quite a high number. We have also Morton (but he hasn't played a seniors game for us) and Walsh (but he never played seniors for St Kilda).

Shannon Grant would be the best we let go - certainly in terms of what he achieved.

                    Craig Bolton for mine.

Hall and Lockett both were good players before they got here. Bolts and Teddy have improved on speculation and would be close to being the first group of players picked each week, therefore as best recycled players C Bolton.

Shagga doesn't count. I remember an article written saying that Roosey was sent to talk to him along the lines of being a big fish in a small pond or the other way round. Shagga couldn't be talked out of it - did very well.

However, Rocket punted the ruckman (mind is blank - Goldy...), we booted Schneider and Dempster, tried to boot Jude

Love the bias within the forum. Ted Richards joined the Swans because Sheedy dropped him to the resizes for 10 weeks after Jonathan Brown kicked a stack of goals on the then kid. Essendon wanted him to stay. Mattner was offered a three year contract to join the Swans, attractive after being dropped in the Crows finals campaign. Craig Bolton joined after serving as the emergency for two Brisbane Lions premiership sides. Matthews wanted him to stay. Shaw was booted out of Collingwood for disciplinary issues. Same for Wayne Swass who fell out with North. These are hardly 'recycled' players. And yes, the term is offensive. These great players simply got a better gig in an environment where they could flourish and grow and gain recognition for their talents.

Schneider-man ... Never should have let him go.
Also never should have let Jolly go, but of course we didn't discard him so he wouldn't qualify under the criteria here.
