OOOHHHH! So cynical! Let us have some fun! We might not make it but at least now we look as though we could which is different from the last few years.

Its a fair point, but what makes me think this year is different to the last couple (Where we've been a good team at bullying the rubbish teams and rolling over to the good teams) is the way we are going about it when we are playing well. Sure, as always we didn't play 4 quarters today. But we played 2 excellent quarters. Our best footy now is at a level that very few teams in the competition can handle. The challenge is to become more consistent across games and play more and more of the game at those high levels. We have plenty of work to do, but by gee there is a lot to like about how this team is shaping up and how the season is shaping up. Cheer cheer!

I'm with ROK. I think we can finish top 4 with this group if the competition stays even, but our forward line as it is will simply not cut it come finals time.

A possible wildcard is that our newfound depth in the midfield may afford us the luxury of playing Goodes and O'Keefe more up forward. Before, in the days of the blue-collar Cortinas, we had no choice but to play them in the midfield. True, Goodes hasn't set the world on fire as a key forward so far, but with O'Keefe gaining match fitness and now able to spend more time in the forward 50, they could form a handy double act together, similar to Hall and O'Loughlin, with Reid playing more as a third tall. Have noticed that O'Keefe's goalkicking accuracy is on the way up again, an encouraging sign. However, this plan relies on our young midfield keeping up their current great work throughout the year.

Our young inside mids didn't do so well in the first half today, that's why we saw Jude and ROK and Goodes having longer turns at the stoppages. There will be games where JPK and Parks need a bigger chop out, fair enough they flogged all comers until today, but the ability to adjust and make structural changes was masterful work from Horse

Hawthorn were as good as we allowed them to be.
We were soft in the first half and they controlled it, we came out in the second half and hit them hard and they capitulated because of our pressure. To say anything else is an insult to the team.
What on earth do they have to do for you to give them some acknowledgement?

Not to mention that half of football was so attractive. We got a little taste of how Horse wants our boys to play. It's hard, relentless and stems from winning the contested ball, but the speed of the spread and use of long kicks into the forward line was pretty sublime when you saw all the mids rushing to present and become an option.

I should also mention that our handballs under pressure in the second half was very composed and allowed for all that transition play. Great football all round after half time.

it did help that they lost Gibson at the back though

Just as it did when port lost Carlisle

I think our forward line is still a long way off to be honest, despite our 5-0 start.

But we have a side that never gives up and plays deep on the ball. That always gives you a chance. Adelaide this week will be a big test. We just have to turn at the break with 9 wins in the bag as a minimum. After that really anything could happen. The footy commentators have it right this year I think. There are no dominant teams this year so we just have to keep winning to set ourselves up for finals assuming we get there.
