McGlynn put in alright but made some horrible errors and fumbled all game. He fumbled first bite opportunities too many times. He wasn't the only one mind you, with a lot of it caused by over possessing.

Parker had 11 handballs before he had his first kick in the last quarter which was a set shot miss. He was obsessed with finessing and handballing regardless of where a player was. He had opportunities to move the ball forward when we had players one out up forward, but decided to be play "pretty football" instead.

Clearly should be playing in the backline. Has a bit of grunt unlike the marshmellow masquarading as an AFL footballer wearing the no.9.

It's the timing of the frees given to st kilda that was the killer.

Midway thru first qtr it was 5 to 2 saints way.

By end of second it was 14 to 6.

A significant advantage. It's not just a case of the frees paid to them, but the similar decisions which were not paid our way.

I still think (without having watched the game!) that our very predictable game plan which is so easily countered by the good teams, and our structures which are unworkable when the aforesaid game plan is not working, has a lot to answer for. As one commentator said during the 2nd qu. that the Swans players were totally disorganised - one reason being that Kennedy had been completely shut down. In the opinion of another, when Sydney's Plan A is shut down, there is no plan B. (But that is not new observation!) They did happen to mention the dysfunctional forward line a few times too.

I agree that the players have to take some responsibility though. I am wondering if Macca's game is suffering (very ineffective disposals) because he is trying too hard to be a good captain. Some players like Kirky can run around and play a great game themselves while directing everyone else at the same time - not too many probably. Others can't. Maybe Macca is one who can't.

I don't think it will help to change the team personnel too radically especially if it is the game plan and structures that need rejigging. And it is not a good look for the future if we are depending on the return of AG to be the solution to our problems. So where does that leave us? Hoping for a miracle ..... or two ....... especially next week!

Legs I felt sorry for your little boy - it was an appalling performance by thd teams and lets hope that they extract the digit and put yhis game behind them and really put in next week anvd beyond.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

there is an old idea in footy that you don't take players out of the positions they are best at, to fill weaknesses in other positions
we are falling away badly at half forward, i would play rok there
he is a great contested mark and booming kick from 50
i love lrt, but he is the third or fourth defender or 2nd ruckman at best now
unfortunately we have lost our best forward line to injury
                  goodes, rohan,reid/spangher
we can't have the midfield kick the goals every week

A lot of the time it was because the players with the ball insisted on over possessing and the moment had passed. St Kilda however moved the ball quickly and ripped us apart with their pace and attack on the footy. The number of times we had 3 and 4 flying for a mark and no one down and St Kilda had a mob of them there to take the footy away. People talk about momentum; what about Parker's pathetic jump at the ball in the second quarter to give away a free when he needed to stay down. He did it again in the last quarter. Dumb footy.

Everyone else is having their 2 bobs worth so here's mine.

A lot of people (including myself) had overestimated the quality of the team in the first 5 rounds. Back to earth, but no need to panic. Todays effort was crap and we need to improve in a lot of areas.

This season so far, the comp is more even than it has been for some time. In that situation you show up slightly down on performance and you are in trouble. With Mummy and Goodes out our reliance is placed on young shoulders along with players who are bit players and not stars more than it has been for a few years. While that is the case form will fluctuate. I still believe some of those young players will be our stars of the future and will form the core of a very good group going forward.

With the evenness of the comp things can turn. We look like the bottom of the eight side also run side we have been for the past few years, but with a few stars back and an increase in confidence among some younguns I think things can change quickly. I just hope the coaches are drilling into the players that the performance today was not acceptable.

I don't believe in wielding the axe but a few of the worst offenders should go to set an example and the rest of the group should be put on notice.

Yeah we have become a bit too reliant on the midfield- lets hope that Spang is back soon and Goodes and Mummy sooner than expected.

Melbourne gave us a lesson on how not to turn up. We learned it well.

Very much agree that they didn't take the first option and consistently sold themselves into trouble. But I do wonder if they first options were really that sincere? A lot of half arsed pretend efforts in my opinion.

Anyway, I thought I'd got all this negative stuff out of my system a few years ago, but just a bummer when I finally get to make it the guys don't turn up! Wardy, thanks for your thoughts - the little fella is asleep in bed and dreaming sweet dreams I am sure - he enjoyed his pie and Syd made him laugh.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.
