1. Play mcveigh as a hard tagger.

3. Play Armstrong or Cunningham as the sub
4. Drop Malceski

Other than using Morton instead of tdl there is not much else we can do until Goodes and Mumford return.

Sam Reid needs to stay in although they should not play him injured as they did earlier in the year.

What would you do about AJ he is injured, suspected broken arm? Armstrong needs to come in for AJ. Agree Mal out, Macca was as soft as hell last week and really should go too but won't. Still not sure Cunningham can come in now Brown is back because he replaced Brown on the list and Brown has now recovered.

It's hard to tell from the tele how much effort Walsh put in, but ideally I'd like to see him get another couple of games in seniors before being dropped (unless his next game is 1 touch again, then fair enough). If they feel they have enough from his two games to give him something to work on in the magoos then that's another thing, but ideally I'd like him to get enough experience that they have AFL level points to work on.

I think a few guys are pretty lucky that there was no magoos fixture this week for people to have a blinder in.

I know we can nominate someone to replace him Ugg but is Harry precluded because he has already been a replacement? If AJ has broken his arm that will be at least 6 weeks so he will be on the long term injury list too.

Bugger it bring Mitchell in and play him off the bench he has played 70 min at Two's level and should really have another game there but WTF I think he would be good. He is strong and slippery.

Time to throw out the baby with the bath water!

When you see the high intensity 4 quarter effort made by both teams in the Adelaide-Collingwood game, you see how far off the mark we are, especially when you consider that Collingwood won on the road with so many of its stars injured. It doesn't seem to matter who Collingwood put out on the paddock, everyone shows up to play. Longmire has to make a statement about these back to back horrendous Melbourne performances. The standard of effort has to change if we are to have any chance of moving up the ladder. I don't blame Longmire for these performances unless he doesn't take some action, even if it just to show that he means business. You can't just talk about 4 quarter efforts and consistency and then do nothing we it doesn't happen.

It probably won't make a difference how many changes we make as to the result of the next 2 matches. We will probably bounce back at home and redeem ourselves next week, and then take another Melbourne hammering against the Dons.

So lets try to accomplish something before the break. Longmire needs to make a statement that yesterday's performance won't do. Let's try a 2 ruckman combo and see how it works, with Seaby as the main ruck and Pyke as forward-ruck. Lake will kill whoever we put up as FF, so lets try a smaller and quicker forward line and spare Reid or Walsh (or both) another poor game.

Changes:
Out: Johnson, Malceski, LRT, Walsh, Reid, Bird.
In: Armstrong, Morton, Seaby, Spangher, Moore, Nipper (sub). (Could give Mitchell or Merry a go as sub as well).

I think morton has to come in, he is a proven goal kicker at AFL level, something we badly need. Spangher to get a go aswell. AJ out and maybe walsh, although id be inclined to give him another go? Maybe bird out aswell....who knows, we have to do something though.

He has been playing well Stell but just a problem, he have been demoted to the rookie list so we can't play him. Not unless we elevate him to replace Rohan.

Another interesting observation from the Adelaide-Collingwood game is that Cloke and Dawes had only one mark and no goals each for the game and Cloke had only possession at 3 qtr time. I think the game is moving away from the big power forwards to small quick forwards and goal kicking mids. That's been true for us this year and has been true for most other teams as well this year including the Saints, who have loaded up with small quick forwards despite having one of the best tall forwards in football.

We've got a lot of goal kicking small forwards and mids playing ressies this year, Nipper, Meredith, Morton and Cunningham. Our tall forwards seem to be our problem since the Bazza days, so why not structure an offense built around a smaller side. In the Bulldogs pre-Bazza days I think they were the highest scoring team despite not having a true tall forward. I think Johnson played full forward and they got loads of goals from the likes of Gianserracusa and Aka.

It seems that we are playing to our weakness instead of our strength. You can have a game plan built around tall forwards if their names and Carey and Longmire, but not Walsh and Reid. Horse has got to shape the team around the personnel we have, not the personnel he recalls from his playing days.

So let's have a good look at the past month.

A win at home against witches hats in red and blue. A loss to the hot Adelaide that we probably should have won and inept performances against Wretchmond and Saints.

Not pretty reading and the draw is tough from here.

Is our problem being too stagnant with the ball in hand whenever things get tough. Not sure what the official stats show but to me almost every other team keeps the ball moving whereas we seem to hold it up and the opposition flood back making forward progress difficult.

Why not back your skills and back you team mates to beat the opposition and just keep the ball moving forward quickly? Seems simple to me but then again I haven't been approached by anyone to be a coach or tactician!

At least we should get back Goodes and Mumford soon and Spangher must appear in the frame before too long. Mitchell is obviously a late season bonus if he stays fit. Maybe roll the dice and add Morton to the forward mix, at least he has x-factor, great skills and knows how to kick a goal. Maybe roll the dice BIG time and have both Morton and TDL in the forward 50, might that pose some problems for our oppostion to think about?

It wasn't too far removed, in my opinion, from the game against Richmond- the Seaby/White combo got the chop (to be fair it was probably Seaby chopped and White just making way for a returning player) in that one but that may not have been the problem. It's quite troubling, really.
