Except if there is a clash with NRL requirements. They will get first dibs every time, and the AFL may not have the flexibility to schedule around them (depending on minimum breaks, rewarding higher ranked sides etc). Was reason we got the semi to beat all semis against the Cats in 2005 . . . if a similar scheduling problem this year could deliver something like that, I think we'd all be pretty happy (except if unable to get a ticket!!)Comment

'Least likely to budge' is not an absolute 'we won't'. But it is only in the paper, so you may well be right!
AFL is very committed to it's broadcast partners, so if push really came to shove, they could favour ratings over bums on seats.
It's not likely to get that far now though - Bunnies look to be aiming for a fourth place rather than third place finish (with the apparently happy coincidence of achieving a semi against Canterbury in Sydney rather than against Melbourne in Melbourne)! Thereafter results according to seedings would see only one prelim in Sydney and the other in Melbourne and everything would be 'fine' (except for those of us who would happily have a prelim at the SCG even if only ten people could be there to see it)!Last edited by SwansFan1972; 20 August 2012, 02:06 PM.Comment

Well, seems like nothing is set in stone. NRL AFL Turf war is brewing over ANZ final fixtures| Herald Sun

The laughing ox does not plough the field.
Well Mick was right about the Swans losing to the Hawks and now we wait for the Cats.
Although it was anyone's game in the end, the Swans did give up 7 goals in that second quarter.
The RWO threads are reflecting the same feelings by looking at all the titles.
The Crows are now being given a great deal of credibiltity to make the GF now.Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment

We kept the best side In the comp goalless for over a quarter. That's a massive positive. That we still managed to lose is a negative, but I think we are clearly the second best side in the comp and we are not far behind hawthorn. Collingwood and Adelaide haven't done much recently to write home about, both losing games they would have expected to win against lesser opponents. Adelaide will come into finals on the back of games against Melbourne and the GC, far from ideal preparation. They should be ripe for the picking in a qualifying finalComment

I'm no statistician but I think people are more likely to post negative things than positive things. Swans were sitting pretty on top of the ladder for quite a few weeks which was no easy feat, and I'd hate to think what the other 17 boards are like when their teams have NO chance of even coming near top 2. I'm sure the Collingwood forums would be awful, and the Essendon one(s) would be unbearable.
Yes, a few close games have slipped through but we've also managed to hold on in a couple of close ones too. The competition is very even, the team is much more capable than it was last year, and tbh I wouldn't hold the number or topics of the threads to mean much. Users of the site probably go through phases of activity, some will be very active posters then not, some users will only comment on threads and never start them, and then there are others that are happy just to read. The only way to really gauge how fans are really feeling would be to try and have them be forced to vote, and even then the questions would need to be asked in the correct manner.
I don't think things are that dire but that is just my opinion and I think there needs to be some balance to the doom and gloom that's going around. There is always a winner and a loser in every game (except when it's a very rare draw) so I always expect that one team or half of the league goes home a loser every week, and that is simply the nature of competitive sports.Comment

Well Mick was right about us losing to the Cats as well now.
However, I thought he was very complimentary towards the Swans through the commentary last Saturday.
Geelong are the Premier's and with the added players back last Saturday they were going to be very hard to beat.
Its a pity that the Swans don't seem to have another option when the better teams stop our run. Maybe they do but the guys fall apart and can't execute that other option under pressure.
Which ever way, I am really happy how this season has gone. We finished 3rd and have a real chance at a Preliminary final.
Seems the verdict is 50:50 whether the Crows are the real deal this year. Its the injuries that the Swans are carrying that we don't know about that are our serious opposition this year.
If not this year, with a fit Rohan next year and some more experience for the younger guys then we are very much a chance.
Swans are asking for a noisy Crows crowd. Bit of the old reverse psychology. Don't think the Crows fans are that smart.Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment
