Report in the Hun today that Melbourne would delist Lucas Cook: b. 3.3.1992, h. 196, w. 81. Obviously doesn't excite them, but would he be worth a look? Has anyone seen him play, and does he have development possibilities?

We've had a Capt Kirk, why not a Capt Cook.

Um back on topic, does anyone know where one can access decent mock drafts? I take it Big Footy is a good source - you don't often say that.... Anywhere else - I always enjoy checking out the names that are thrown up and the expected selections etc...

As for Claremont's Tommy Lee (former Adelaide list), he's 21 and is just above a mid-sized forward at 194cm and 94kg. Plays as the second forward (to Chad Jones and supported by Paul Medhurst) for the Tigers, but is very quick, an excellent kick for goal both close in and from long range (19 games, 53.19), and is an outstanding overhead mark.
I'll be interested to see how he performs in the finals, but I reckon he is a very good player.

I's like to see Spang bought in as a permanent FF next year. He showed last year that he's more than capable of competing at AFL level as a forward. Name him at FF, persevere (no knee-jerk relegation after a bad game), and I reckon we'd be on to a winning combo with him, Reid, a resting ruckman and maybe a Morton or Lamb picking up the crumbs? Goodes to be given free reign to whatever the hell he wants.

Much prefer to see Rohan than Spanger as a permanent FF.

I would be throwing the bank account, cheque book and grandstand at Goodard to get him to the Swans. His case has been very quiet and I would be very surprised if we have not had a quiet chat to his manager.

After Freo's result last night I reckon he might find the air out west very appealing and he can rejoin forces with his mentor Ross Lyon. No way we could get him.

The way these free agency deals seem to work is that the parties involved in the switch each get something, by the other teams pay the price by being knocked down the order at the draft. It seems a bit unfair.

For instance, if Goddard goes to Freo, the other teams would get knocked down the drafting order to compensate St. Kilda for their loss. Why should the rest of the teams not a party to deal have to pay the price?

Nope you aren't missing anything, Free Agency is not nice thing, the AFL resisted but the Players Association pushed it.

Yes you are right, innocent clubs not party to the deal will have to wear a diluting of their draft position.

I fear that Free Agency will very much favour the strong clubs and particularly the Melbourne heavyweights who will be able to attract top players looking for open premiership windows and the go home (to Vic where a majority of players hail from)factor.

This years big fish, Goddard and Cloke would be worth what for St.Kilda and Collingwood based on the compo paid for GWS ad GCS poached players? A mid first round round pick, that's pick 11 in an uncomprimised draft. So if you finish 8th next year, you should have had pick 11 but get pick 13. So you don't get future Brownlow Medalist Toby Green but you get Taylor Adams a handy mid/fwd :-)

Time to fire up this thread again as I'm at home with the flu so not much to do, this week there's no "drop LRT" thread providing amusement and our next game is weeks away.

It's shaping that we're going to have ND picks around 20, 40 and 60, so not a lot of excitement or instant fixes there.

Don't think that anyone we are willing to let go has much value to another club. Supporters always tend to over value their players. I don't think we've got anyone that we can trade for more ND picks or for a player that can solve our achilles heel, the forward line.

One - Jarred Moore is retiring
Two - Brett Meredith just hasn't shown enough
Three - Jesse White time might be up/Matt Spangher body not holding up/Mark Seaby keep as insurance in case Mummy and Pyke both go down at same time/Gordon will he actually make the grade or just making up numbers?

Rookie clean out is probably McNeill and Kruger, both not likely to make AFL standard. The other four will stay - ressie watchers?

As an aside, we have the smallest list of any club with 38 and 6 rookies, total 44. Several others have 40 and 8, total 48.

In the lead up to the ND the rules are that we must delist a minimum of three senior list players. So who will those three be?

Trent Dennis- Lane, Brett Meredith, Mark Seaby, Nathan Gordon, Jessie White, Dylan McNeil, Jarred Moore. Only depth players and only a couple have had a game anyway. Clean out the bottom group, pick up a couple of ready mades as we usually do, and the rest youth. QED.

The 3 seniors to go should be:

1. Moore: I feel he could be picked up by one of the weaker teams like Port or Melbourne as a free agent.
2. Seaby: Slight possibility of getting picked up by GWS as an uncontracted player.
3. TDL: Hopefully we can wrangle a trade, perhaps for a draft pick upgrade. Unlikely to find a spot next year. I wonder why he hasn't bulked up a bit, as it is the physicality of the game that seems to be the missing piece to a talented player.

Unless we can get some decent value from a trade, I think we should keep Jesse. With Seaby almost certainly going, we need a 3rd ruckman for depth, and Jesse has improved a lot in the reserves this year. Also buys a bit of time to find the next number 1 ruckman through the rookie list, as it can take a number of tries before you get it right.

Meredith is the kind of player that we would be looking for in the draft this year, being a skillful, quick good decision maker. There is a big question if his body can handle the stress of the game. It's a hard call. If he's dropped, it shouldn't be based on lack of talent.

Spangher is another one that falls into the 'injury prone' category. If he's up and about, could be the answer to our forward line woes. Based on talent alone, would keep him another year.

Although Nipper hasn't played any senior footy this year and may struggle to get many games next year as well, he has so many positive attributes that it would seem crazy not to keep him. He is also quite versatile, is a good mark and can kick a goal. I think he's better than guys like Seedsman and Jamie Elliot, who have played a number of games this year for Collingwood. It's only because we have such good depth this year that he hasn't gotten more of a chance.

One of the few criticisms I've had of Longmire has been his lack of trying new players against weaker teams. This leaves us wondering if some players are worth keeping or not. TDL played great in the reserves and was decent at senior level, but didn't seem quite good enough to hold his spot in a team with lots of options at small forward and looks likely to be behind Morton at this stage, with Lamb, Nipper and a few others ready to pass him. The thing is, that at least we got to see what he could do. Based on the few games that we have seen this year you would think that Morton would get the nod over TDL for the small forward slot.

I'd try to trade TDL, but if we can't, might as well keep him. He's handy depth. Could be gone though.

Moore gone, hopefully coach (has this been confirmed, or just assumed?), Meredith has to be gone, and you'd think Gordon is gone as well (a shame, I'd like to have seen him get a few games as a full-time forward). On top of that, you'd have to think White is gone, but his form since playing as a full-time ruckman at ressies level has been quite good, so maybe he'll get a reprieve. I reckon Spang might get another year to get his body right. Seaby? No idea. Body is obviously unreliable, but without being privy to his medical records, nor knowing exactly how the coaches rate him, it's hard to tell. Pyke's ascendancy obviously doesn't help him. Whatever happens, I seriously doubt all three of White, Spangher and Seaby will be delisted. Likely 1, max 2.

So we could be looking at as many as 6 senior delistings or retirements, on top of any trading that might happen.

As for the rookies, we'll probably be getting rid of McNeil and Kruger. Biggs may be let go as well, because he's handy but hasn't really showed much senior potential, it seems. Lynch seems to be developing nicely, and Cunningham obviously has a bit about him. I'm hoping Cambo gets elevated to the senior list.

Whatever happens, we're not going to struggle for drafting room.
