Does anyone (Ugg?) know who of the possible delistees are contracted for next year? as that throws a different light on who will go.

We must delist three but havent got our veterans outside the list so could add more than three if we wanted to.

I'd think we'll make a serious play for at least one high profile Free Agent as we are an attractive destination for those guys with serious flag possibilities in the next few years. They come to us for free, just cost us $ which I'm sure we've got covered.

Cloke would be the number one target as that is our most glaring weakness. He might like the change of scenery ala many others we've imported from fishbowl Melbourne.

Goddard is a champion and can play anywhere.

Don't discount Moloney who was obviously in conflict with the coaching staff this year. Last year he was 2nd in the AFL for centre clearances and 16th in the AFL for tackles. He's got pace off the mark and plays like a raging bull a good addition to our midfield depth. A lot to like even though he will be 29 next year.

BSA, you're probably right about Meredith, but what a shame. His kicking skills are really good, but he just can't seem to get on the field enough. He did string a fair number of games together in the second half of the season and did get to first emergency, so you would think that he is well regarded at the club. I remember that Roos was quite upbeat about him. I imagine that he will play in the NEAFL final this Sunday. Perhaps he can keep his career alive if he has a great game.

Gordon was just elevated to the senior list this year. I don't think they would drop him after just one year. If he can just get some of the errors out of his game, he's not bad.

Essendon today announced an interest in Goddard.

This is going to be hard but as I have said on other posts Goddard would thrive at the Swans, and in the world of positional convergence give us immense depth. Reid, Rohan and Mitch forward with LRT and Goddard as unpredictable utilities. Goddard is 26, huge opportunity to get the best years of a quality player. Yes, it could cost a bit, but I think the returns would be huge.

Know him well. Was under my care on Wednesdays while boarding in Ballarat. Absolute top shelf character and was identified as one of the 16 year olds most likely to be drafted (In Champion Data's Compendium). I wrote to the Swans in his draft year to recommend Lucas to the club. Dominated school footy and was all-Australian. Well worth a Swan's rookie spot at least.

Reid is only 20. only 20 and playing a KPP role. Dunstall says they take 5-6 to become good, and he's shown so much already, with another pre season and a bit more muscle he is gonna be a real threat. We need to draft another KPP forward to cover for goodesy aswell when he retires.
LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.

Next year our team will have 7 players, 1/3 of the team 30 years or over (unless someone retires at the end of this season). These include Teddy, Shaw and Mattner all from the back lines, as well as LRT. Who is going to step into their shoes in say 2 years time? Its a scary thought!

We will still have Grundy, Mal, Smith and AJ. Both Everitt and Spangher were recruited as backline players but haven't had the opportunity/or been needed to play there so far. Is AJ a likely KPP to take over from Teddy? There is Armstrong, possibly Heath, possibly Lockyer and Brown waiting in the wings - all untried as yet apart from Armstrong's few games. Maybe Heath is a likely one to take over Mattner's role? Armstrong could be a replacement for Shaw but while he has the wonderful disposal skills that Shawy doesn't have he hasn't got Shaw's physicality.

If the current trend of power forwards continues I think we should be looking for a potential big, strong, body on body, athletic full back - almost forgot about good disposal skills and cool under pressure. There must be one somewhere!

Should that have been "NAB a couple of these"?

Don't forget our picks will be no better than 20, 40 and 60. That's the price you pay for still playing in mid September. With our list's age profile, this years trade period and draft could be more critical than usual to our medium/long term success.

That's why the Swans Academy is so important, because we have the opportunity to gain players for a lesser draft pick than they would normally cost. Father-Son choices are like that. Essendon and Tankers have got two F-S steals in the ND this year, we had Mitchell last year, Bullies had Liberatore and Wallis in 2010.

If it's an issue the real solution will be found with a FF, allowing Goodes more time in the midfield (if physically able) and Rohan, but I think he'll be the one to nail down FF next year. (it's where he started and looked good prior to his injury.)
Don't think Goodes can run through the middle for to long, would rather see him used in the forward 50m arc, Rohan to run in the forward half as the extra outside speed would help.
