Absolutely rapt with this win but I missed most of the game. Didn't hear much about Jack's game but someone said he was a little quiet. Saw he wore a hat! Did he 'run with' anyone? Regardless, our midfield numbers look superb, especially given the opposition.

In regards to defence and structural discipline, yesterday was as good a four quarter effort as we've put in in a long time. There were a few dodgy disposals but pretty much everything else was top notch. Smith was so good that he even got noticed by a commentator! LRT and Ted were both wonderful and I thought Marty had one of his best games in ages. Hanners' return to form was welcome and of course Goodesy really stood up. I can't find a bad player though. Looking forward to Friday week immensely.

It was astonishing that most of the media experts picked Adelaide to win on the basis we were one Reg down, and he was so critical to the team of 22 that he couldn't be covered by any other inclusion.

Room for Improvment

I thought our pressure for 4 quarters was brilliant, however our disposals by hand and foot were ordinary. Not wanting to sound cocky, but there is plenty of room for improvment. Our backline was pretty amazing, and to think LRT has played in that position all season. Smith, LRT, richards, Shaw, johnson and mattner all deserve much praise. To all those people who thought recruiting Morton was a waste of time (I confess I was one of those) its time to eat your words!!! Gulp!!

He is, quite frankly, one of the most important players in the team. Far more important that most seem to realise.

Things to bring a smile:

- our half time score beat their full time score
- achieving a home prelim after last two weeks of regular season = mental toughness at the very top of whatever scale measures such things
- a week is a long time in football! Saturday 1 September: Cats 112, Swans 78. Saturday 8 September: Cats out, Swans straight through to home prelim!
- Swans back six. How good are they?!?!?
- LRT
- Friday night prelim coming up (thank you ANZ/NRL) = short break for winner Pies/Eagles, then extra day break leading into the Grannie (assuming all goes to plan)
- Friday night prelim coming up = can attend friend's 40th on the Saturday night and not miss the game (and ideally be looking forward the last Saturday in September with much anticipation)!

The one bloke who did come good after a lean patch was Hanneberry - provided a lot of poise on the outside of the packs.

Hanneberry was an interesting game over 30 disposals but 7 clangers and disposals at only 56% eff didnt make the best players list. He was no doubt working his butt off as he found the footy over 30 times but under pressure his disposal was poor and has been over last 4 weeks - will have been a great learning season to date, if he can control his disposals, lift his effective and reduce number of clangers only a bonus for us.

During the game I thought that hanners desperately needs to work really hard on his kicking. His run gets him into some great positions but his delivery has been pretty poor recently. His off season has just got to be all about delivery to players on the run to players on the lead.

Jack was apparently wearing the helmet because he had a gash on his head and the helmet stopped the blood flow. I thought he played really well. Not his usual standout brilliance, but whenever he did get the ball he used it smartly and his effort can never be questioned.
