I wonder how Reg is feeling atm?
He and Ted have toiled away in the post Leo/B2 years to become our pillars in defence. He's an integral part of our stunning success this season, and it would be a very poor reward to send him back to Adelaide for a player that may or may not work out for us.
A decision to trade Reg seems to fly in the face of a culture that espouses commitment and trust.
People have to remember that all talk on here is purely speculation atm.
Hopefully the outcome will not be as bad as we are anticipating.
I'm sure the club are weighing up the best options for us.Comment

FWIW
I think LJ at the Crows may still surprise many on this board, just as Stevens did.Comment

It is understandable to be sentimental about the team that just snared the flag. But in the football world, clubs can't afford to be sentimental if they want to be successful. Even to have a shot at going back to back next year, the team needs to improve and that means change. The forward line has been the achilles heel all year and the club has identified the best option available to improve that weakness and has persuaded him he wants to play for the club.
The sad thing is that one or more of our premiership favourites will move on, or be moved out of the team. That is the way it has to be for the club to move on. And as the players acknowledge all the time, the club is bigger than any individual player.
Shortly after 2005/6 we lost two of the team that brought us so much pleasure. Schneider was reluctant, Dempster probably less so. Both grabbed the chance at a new club with gusto and played in two further grand finals. One has turned himself from fringe player into All Australian. Jude has spoken often about the time the senior players were sat down and told some might have to be traded to make the club stronger. He looked around the room and realised that very might well be him. It could well have been.
The club has a track record of being astute but realistic traders. They know that to strengthen the team they will probably have to part with something they would prefer to keep. But that is the way it has to be.
The other comment I'll add is that while a list has to be built / maintained with an eye on the future, it is folly to plan too far ahead. Things change with alarming speed. Witness all the dynasties - Eagles post 2006, Hawks in 2008, Pies in 2010 - that never happened. Players get injured, players lose form. Some get frustrated wanting more opportunities. Meanwhile skinny key position players taken late in the draft find themselves key planks of a successful side two or three seasons before they have any right to expect. If a club wins a premiership and loses none (or even one - Jude) player to retirement, and still has young players with plenty of improvement, it is the right thing to focus on the immediate future, even if that comes at the cost of the age profile two or three years down the road. And in any case, age is only a rough guide to how much football a player has left in him. Once a player hits 30, it seems that the football industry is waiting for them to announce their retirement. Yet Fosdike and Longmire are examples of premiership players whose bodies forced them into retirement while still in their 20s. Dustin Fletcher is still going at 37 or 38.Comment

Actually you're probably right, according to wiki AFL Pre-season Draft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia the picks in PSD can not be tradedComment

Tippett was clearly not happy in Adelaide so that would affect his consistency. He's a guy that I think would thrive away from the goldfish bowl atmosphere of Adelaide. If theres's one thing the Swans know how to do is and that is make their players happy and settled so they can produce their best footy.
He's a gun in my view and I'm confident the Swans will make a trade that is in the best interests of the club.Comment

Grundy plus a pick gives Adelaide an opportunity to play Talia up front also.
LRT and or AJ slot in as a KPP in the Swans backline
Spang, Everitt, Walsh and or Lockyear steps up just as AJ did
we trade for another tall in 2012 or 2013 or 2014"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Trading starts this Monday. Jessie wants to go to another club. If we get a 2nd round draft pick for him, which seems feasible, then it could be as simple as a 1st and 2nd round pick for Tippett. Who knows what else is going on behind the scenes at 18 clubs. Anything can jump out of the woodwork. It sure will be an intersting time. Nice being in the box seat though.Comment
