Tippo is worth it when fit. Sadly that's not very often. And when he arrived here I thought it'd be concussion that'd end his career.

Is there some EBay-style alarm I can set to come back after 4999 posts to spoil my usurping namesake's party?

I agree on all counts. Most Crows supporters were certain of it. Hopefully they can get him right within 12 months

I'll shut up (for now) goswannies and leave 5000 to you.

There was a young man called Tippett
Who the Swans believed could dead set
                rippit
                When it all came unstuck
                The coaches said #%*?
And all appealed for leg before wicket ...

Just announced on Fox pre game. So that's three more years but at a reduced rate. I wonder if we were over a barrel because of clauses in his earlier contract because an extra three years seems a bit much given recent output and age. Would want to be a fair bit less than $875k he's currently on.

There will be a lot of sad faces on RWO at this news!

3 years gives them more leverage when they trade him out

Doubt any other club would take a 30+yo who they would have to honour the contract duration until 2020. Plus I think Horse still rates him for structure. Wish him away as much as you want, I reckon he's here until then end of his career

IF the deal that we negotiated for Kurt was replacing a two year $1.95m deal for 2017-18 with a four year $2.4m deal over 2017-20 then I guess we are stuck with it.

And it's probably not a bad outcome, it takes a chunk off the cap for this year and next and in effect he becomes a top 10 earner rather than one of the game's top earners. And he does have the potential to get his body right and get close to being worth $600K a year.

I view Tippo now as a ruckman who can kick the odd goal and he's one of three first team quality rucks we have, and you do need at least three game ready rucks on your list. It leaves the ruck side of the list until the likes of Maze can come through in a few years time.

Not perfect but probably the best outcome we could hope for.

I doubt we'll be trying to trade him now

I agree with this. A combination of good financial management and dealing with the real need to maintain adequate ruck stock of a decent standard.
I'm tempted by Ludwig's view on ruckmen and the example from Melbourne, but in the end Tippo is a useful piece of tall timber.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
