Tippett!!

Very few of these 200cm plus guys seem to be able to string together a lot of games without getting
injured fairly regularly. I noticed Sandilands is out yet again. It just seems to be par for the course with them.
It may be that these huge bodies are not really meant for playing footy week in, week out.
I'd rather have Tippo out there than not. He does always have a go.Comment

But I reckon Tipp takes some of the heat of Bud allowing Bud to do his natural thing. Pity Tip is made of soggy tissue paperComment

Tippett has played well for us when he's been uninjured, and with he AND Buddy in the side, we've been effective more often than not. The debate on whether the salary cap would have been better used on other players had we known Buddy was on his way is a different discussion. But I don't think Buddy's arrival can be blamed for the variety of injuries Tippett has sustained, which are the main reason why he's not delivered the value we hoped he would.Comment

I think when you have two highly paid big bodied forwards in the same team the expectation is
they'll combine for 6 or 7 goals a week, but this rarely comes to fruition. Maybe Patton & Cameron
for GWS are doing this at the moment, but generally it's very uncommon. Tippo's issue is his
body, which unfortunately for him is not getting any younger.Comment

Agree! two big body forwards rarely work. Many teams are having smaller forward lines and are now having success i.e Richmond. I will be surprised if Tippett ever plays another game for the Swans. I am hoping that if we can trade Tippett, we may be able to hold onto Reid. But according to a workmate fanatical Magpie Supporter, Collingwood are very confident of picking up Sam Reid next year.
Our own forward line looks far more potent when Reid is playing well than when Buddy has to do things on his own.Comment

After last week will the Swans ever want to play Buddy, Tippo, Reid and Naismith in same side again?Comment

If you compare Franklin (40-37) with Cameron (40-20) and Reid (21-10) with Patton (26-8), Patton has played
12 games, the rest all 14 games, then there isn't a huge amount in it. GWS are only marginally ahead. I think the
bombing has a lot to do with the amount of pressure on the midfielders. All of these guys will lead up, and Reid and
Patton (who are both great marks) will regularly drop back into defence to help out. I know Tippo can ruck, and he
has a unique haircut but he lacks the versatility of these other four.
My opinion is the GWS forward line is not functioning very well, but saying that Cameron is much more mobile than Tippet and they have the luxury of two classy small forward crumbers in Johnson and Green. Still, having tall forwards seems to make the rest of the team want to bomb it it, which is a flawed gameplan no matter how good your talls are.Comment

Assuming Sam can stay on the park he is actually on track to have his best year in front of goal for us.
His career accuracy rate in front of goal is about 57%, which is not fabulous. This year he is just under
70% so far. There is no doubt he is one of the best one grab marks in the comp and I like that he puts in,
and can be a very useful defender as well. I hope he stays, even though he is still relatively young he
has been around for so long the team doesn't really look right without him.
