Clearly the Jarrad is going along pretty well right now, but it's also easy to see him as a guy for whom the drop off will come fast
(ala ROK, Steve Johnson etc). Hopefully we can get him a second premiership medal this year (he played in the 06 GF, but not 05).
    He deserves it.

He's not a relative of the Donald?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Well, you would hope not. The last thing we need in the team going into September is a senior player being called away to Washington to be
questioned over dodgy funds he rec'd from Russia.

Could it be possible that we could see the first negaitvely geared trade in the AFL, much like Osweiler in the NFL? Say, Tigers gives us a third round pick, and we give them Tippett and a second round pick.

Arguably we've already been involved with one. Pretty sure we dumped Bird's salary on Essendon by sweetening the deal with our first round pick. Overall however it worked out well for us as we gained 16 draft points that we used on Mills.

I'd be surprised if we are that desperate to get rid of him but I do think his form over the rest of the season will be a factor.

Reality is that he is under contract and as such Tippett has to agree to any change as well, he's not just a bit of cattle we can trade. If Tippett says he's happy in Sydney and happy to fight for his spot, as you'd expect him to be, then he won't leave. And I am sure we treat our players with more respect than trying to bully them out the door. Any deal will require both parties to be better off and agree to the deal and it's hard to see that happening.

And at the worst case he's good cover, albeit slightly expensive cover

Tippo hasn't played since R10 and he was a bit rusty - what a huge surprise!

I watched the end of the game last night and it was interesting to see the number of players pat him on the head (big reach) and celebrate when he laid a tackle.

At his best he's in our best (and versatile) and I don't see why we'd give him away.

And does anyone know if he's still on big bucks after his two pay cuts - or is everyone guessing? (We still found the money for Reed, etc.)

Hmm. On current form, which is hopefully fleeting, it could be a symbiotic transaction. Tippett isn't stuck in the NEAFL, Tigers get a tall that they're screaming for, and we dump his contract. I don't see the bullying there.

Good call. But wasn't 22 and 43 worth more trade points than 14?

As I wrote it gained us 16 points, which is equivalent to pick 72. Surely Bird was worth more than pick 72, which would indicate that we traded him out on the cheap to provide relief to our salary cap.

I think it was also because we had no room for him and wanted to give him a chance elsewhere. I ran into Jason Saddington ages ago and he told me that once the Swans knew they weren't going to play him they did everything to ensure he got a start elsewhere. That's admirable and made the X Richards debacle even more shocking last year.

I'm pretty sure that the Swans wouldn't have stood in Xav's way if he had got that good offer, it just that it wasn't there at all.

I can't get the feeling there was also some stuff behind the scenes there with Xav

He also owes Adelaide. Hard to say who he owes more, but the guy's holding a big bag of cash and a lot of IOUs that will never be paid.

Disagree that he owes Adelaide anything. Crows only have themselves to blame for penalties they were handed.
