People from Adelaide can't seem to understand (or accept) that others don't want to live there. They believe that EVERYONE wants to live in that oversized country town with the city skyline unobscured by high-rises (ie progress); where shops shut early ... or aren't even open on public holidays; where a local "celebrity" cannot escape scrutiny ... on the TV, in the paper or on the street, always recognizable to the footy "loving" patrons; where the cost of utilities is amongst the highest in the nation, yet the average wage is at the lower end. Yup, odd that someone after several years in the city of churches, away from his family & friends, might want a change.

Then the Crows say they invested so much time & money into developing the lad ... ignoring the fact that its his job (ergo they have to pay him) & Tippett put in the time too on the training track & the paddock. The Crows say that they were paying him good money & that greed motivated his going for what ever extra the Swans were offering him ... but what individual in their right mind would not consider a 20-odd percent pay rise to change companies? I mean, if you worked at McDonalds for $40K a year & KFC offered you $50K to do the same thing, wouldn't you consider it seriously? & those good people at West Lakes conveniently forget, when they question his loyalty, that Tippett was considering a move before his inked his LAST contract ... that's why they paid him well in his previous contract & supposedly included the clause to allow him to go to the club of his choice for a second round pick. They essentially offered him lots of money to entice him to stay for a few more years ... the Swans offered him a little more to go. & while the Crows management frequently criticize his disloyalty ... they happily ignore that every year, every club delists players to participate in the draft or offers to trade players to bolster their stocks, all too often against the players wishes. Yup, loyalty seems to be a one way street.

I would be really interested as to whether the Cats fans & players display such derision & animosity toward G.Ablett Jr?
The issue is how he left (text messages etc) for the playing group. Not that he left. And yes they shou;d keep their mouths shut publicly, but all in all they shoulf feel poorly treated by him as a playing group. The club/business well thats another matter...

I'm not sure how he was supposed to tell them any other way. From all reports, he was home on the GC (well, his other home...lol) and his teammates were splintered in various parts of the globe letting their hair down on end of season trips.

I just don't get why there has been so much angst (not just from van Berlo) on the way Tippett told his ex-teammates, texting seems the logical way. Given the backlash, it appears that not even bothering to tell them at all and let them read it in the papers would have been a better option for him.

Triple B has a point here. Either Tippet texted his teammates himself, or he informed club officials and they texted the team. It was the most practical way to do it and at least it came from the man himself.

Completely agree. My understanding is that he was at home, that he was essentially told by the club he wasn't welcome onsite anymore, none of the players were there anyway AND he knew it was about to go crazy in the media. Not sure what they expected him to do.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

They EXPECTED him to either re-sign & most of South Australia would be vindicated (albeit blissfully ignorant) in the deluded belief that Adelaide is God's gift to the Southern hemisphere (which it probably is if you're Al Capone or Charles Manson) ... OR ... he was EXPECTED to go back to the Gold Coast for a substantial payment (in exchange for a 2nd round pick) with most of South Australia bemoaning the "soft eastern state kids who can't live away from home, but it's no great loss coz he's really a never-was basketballer anyway & not the gun forward, part time ruckman we've been extolling the virtues of for the past six years".

He texted himself & it was quite a nice message:

"Boys, this morning, I have told the club that I won't be renewing my contract for 2013.

"Making my decision has been one of the toughest processes I have ever been through.

"I have asked the club to shoot through an email to you all but in case it doesn't get through I want to thank you for your support and friendship over the past six years.

"Have absolutely loved playing alongside you all.

"You are all friends for life! I'll be in touch. Love KT.''

Which, depending on his phone plan, would have taken at least 447 characters (depending on punctuation - possibly more) so, with an iPhone (on a Telstra business plan would allow 160 characters per message) his SMS would be sent as 3 messages. With 47 players on their list, that's $28.20. Pretty generous departing message I reckon ... doesn't even include the coaches! 'Course if he's using an iPhone with iMessages or Whatsapp or Viber, his former teammates would have said he was even cheaper!

sms or not, clearly the playing group weren't happy how it went down, regardless if he stayed or not. They know him and the situation better than me.

I could give 2 stuffs though. We have him, and he better put up or shut up when he gets a chance. At the moment he is keeping quiet, so thats a bonus.

                      ...Onwards to victory...

C'mon BillyRay ... give Kurt some credit. He wanted to come to the Swans. He did his homework, & bought a copy of Kirky's book - Brave Heart - & in there is a whole chapter devoted to how important it is to tell people that you love them. Have a read of it. Inspiring stuff

KT had handled himself extremely well through the whole saga, we have definitely done our due diligence on this bloke.
