Possibly the best "Caro" article ever!

Mitch was my favorite story out of the Grand final. I hope he has a huge year for us.

It certainly does, particularly manifesting itself in physical symptoms like vomiting before games.

Fans can get on a player's case for everything, not leading hard enough, not chasing, not putting their head over the ball- but sometimes we don't know everything, and sometimes for guys like Mitch just running out on the field means he's already overcome something that to him is probably a hell of a lot more terrifying than putting your head over the ball is to Jude. Dealing with the potential of physical pain versus mental anguish take different types of bravery, who are we to judge which one is more courageous?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Yep, this link is miles better than the local SMH link.....good lord what do we have to do!

But I am painfully aware that it is the best "Caro" article ever.....

As for throwing up before the game, I do remember seeing Dunks do that on the sidelines at a finals match at the SCG. Unfortunately he had consumed a blueberry muffin prior to the event, and the results had rumours running that he had ruptured his stomach.

I hope the guy makes it as I know what anxiety can do. I have it before I go on stage to the point of nausea. Have PTSD and not nice. I sort of know how he feels just not the intensity of his attacks because they are extremely intense if he is vomiting. He seems a very honest and humble person. I think you have a great deal of talent Mitch!!

              Re: Mitch Morton

Terrific performance today from Mitch. Played high up the ground to I assume gets some run in the legs. Had about 20 possessions with all but one real quality.

Fine article from Caro - a potential award-winner imho. It explains a lot about a very driven young man, and carries the hope that the club will continue to provide the right fit for the best personal outcome.
In a generally excellent piece of journalism the bit I particularly liked was John Longmire's personal vote of confidence. There's nothing like the Horse's mouth.
And thanks for the latest news Al - very encouraging to hear.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Look Wolfy, if I was you, I would be asking myself is it worth all that to be a pole dancer ?

Didn't LRT have the same issue for his first couple of years ?
                    He seems to have progressed...

I have heard stories that a certain Mr A Lockett used to throw up before every game too.

I wish the club would get him to learn Transcendental Meditation. Quite a few players have done it over the years, going right back to Ian Stewart's time as coach, and the results have been terrific. There has also been a lot of research done recently on its use with PTSD sufferers including war veterans, and it has been recommended by the CSIRO.

....that is very true. Tony Lockett mentioned that he always had high expectations of his own performance. He used to disappear into a toilet to vomit before every game due to anxiety. It got to the point that he would worry if he didnt vomit. A champion player.

...as for Mitch, in his own mind he had very high expectations on his own individual performance. Who ever the player in the leadership group is that asked him "what have you done for the team/club to make this a better place?" is a bloody genuis! It forced him to look outside his own individual expectations and focus on the team or group. He went from feeling alone to feeling part of a family. Mitch is obviously a deep thinker and internalises a lot.
A player that everyone of us would have though lacks no self confidence but in fact lacks self-belief. God help the opposition if Mitch ever gets it all together (a thought shared by one Mick Malthouse in commentating the Adelaide final last year). I wish Mitch the very best and not just for 2013.

Just read some of the replies on this issue on Big Footy and was amazed at the message that was being sent. No wonder nobody owns up to these sort of issues. Imagine the reaction if someone came out as being homosexual?
