    Totally agree, how they maintained possession with all the congestion around the ball was truly spectacular and really amazing to watch. The confidence in each other during that match was outstanding

      I just love watching our boys and their skills when they are playing well in midfield. Their decision making is fabulous at times, and they are so adept at moving the ball cleanly and exceptionally quickly. We did it brilliantly at times in the Granny last year, and it was pretty special on Friday night as well. When we are on song, and they are all on a wave length, it is great to watch!

        This was noticeable against the Hawks as well, but;
        1) we didn't have the ball all that often, and
        2) they hawks pressure was relentless, unlike the pies insipid display.

          I think its important to realise that yes we played well, but my god the pies were indeed insipid. Played just like a team sitting well outside the 8

            They played poorly because we did not give them time and space. Our defensive and offensive running was outstanding!

              I genuinely believe that was as good as the Hawks can play. Hodge and Roughhead were absolutely on fire, and even $Franklin$ turned up to play. A truly superb team display. And yet it was a dead heat after the first quarter. And we were half the side then than what turned up for (most of) the Freo game, and even half that again for the C'wood one.

              My only fear is that we meet the Hawks in the Prelim rather than the GF - not because we may lose, but that it may be one of the greatest games ever played, but one week early. Only fear other than the sheer terror of missing September all together of course

                I thought the main thing with the Hawks vs this game was that players really got in each others way, with two guys trying to pick up the ball at the same time, etc. While against the Pies one guy blocked and the other got the ball...Just generally played more like a team.
                The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

                  When a side works as hard as we did you can make the other side look slow and insipid. I think there's been too much talk about how the Pies performed and not enough of on how brilliant we were on the night.
                  ..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

                    Buckley's take is worth mentioning:

                    "We were beaten by last year's premiers playing their best footy in 2013, so we have had a really good look at what the very best looks like this year. Sydney are the best side we have played this season."

                    He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

                        In the Sunday HS the match report was all about how Collingwood lost the game, not the way it should have been written.
