Brilliant performances from the boys. Our pressure on the ball carrier was second to none and the way we dismantled the pies was all class. How good has Hanners been this year? Geez he's stepped it up immensely. And he's only 22. Wow. Goodesy...absolute LEGEND. Love his zip around the midfield. He's a fine bottle of red. To think we were without Shaw, Mattner, LRT, Armstrong, Rohan, and Tippett to come in soon we are looking very very good.

LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.

Thought so too watching on tele, but from the way he and everyone in the square played it looked like they knew it wasn't a mark.
Goal umps really get demoted for one incorrect call? Phwoar!Comment

I'm glad someone else said it. I have never seen a more dominant performance to only win by 8 goals. We should have been eight up by half time. Mal also made some shocking errors. It's hard to be critical but gee whiz we missed some opportunities. Why the heel didn't Morton claim his mark in the goalsquare....surely it would have been paid? Ump called "Play On' AFTER he played on and missed what would have been a certain goal.
After a truly fabulous win it might be petty to gripe but.....gee we butchered quite a few opportunities to score. We aren't going to have the luxury of more than 30 shots at goal against a top team very often. Usually we would be hoping to win with 21 or so and scoring 14.7 (
)
On Friday night we made a dissappointing number of BRAIN blunders that saw us not bury Collingwood much earlier.....Jetta not handpassing to Jack for an easy goal and putting it OOBOF from the pocket instead....(BTW Chelsea R will be demoted for that blunder - she paid a point)
Also Jetta going the checkside, Morton not taking Rampe's kick on full.
Also Everitt's absolutely appalling kick into 50.......had two really easy targets one 20 metres away one 40 metres away with both players 10m off their man....yet kicked it 50 metres to a place where two Collingwood players were the closest to it.
I Like Mike!

To play devil's advocate, I would say that live sport, like live music, is a process that is repeated often and not always with the same results. You can have the same artists with the same instruments and same band but create a different experience each time (even very slight differences, but differences nonetheless). You can have the same cattle (players) with different outcomes. Throw in a different opponent every week and things become very hard to predict. You can train for a skill every training session and sometimes you will get it wrong on the big day (see girl who forgets lyrics to National Anthem).
Yes, there were errors and they should have converted more/missed less shots but no team is perfect, even Hawthorn. They stumbled before the lowly GC boys, which shows that you can never ever really be 100% sure of the outcomes of live sport, and that is the beauty of it.Comment

The mental errors are always the most difficult to fathom.
If you took the Melbourne FC, same coach, same players, same skills. The only difference is that they always made the right decisions. Outcome: They would go undefeated for the season.Comment

Sorry. That's a gross exaggeration. I meant to say 'Maybe they could beat St. Kilda.'Comment

My Mrs likes to get out of the ground asap claiming the kids need to get home (particularly at night games although the kids always want to stay until the death). We have a family rule that states we leave if we are 10 goals down at any point after the three quarter time siren. And up to 10-15 minutes before full time if the task is clearly beyond hope.
We left about half way through Q4 against the Hawks.
I don't like it and never leave early when at the game by myself (sans family) but sometimes you have to make little sacrifices to keep "Her Indoors" happy. I remember a Prelim at the SCG in 1996 when quite a number of Sydney fans were leaving with about 10-15 minutes to go. I bet they regret that.Comment

There was one on 2005 a few had left also and regretted it BIG TIME afterwards.
I share a similar rule to you that if we are beyond hope at the 20 min mark of the 4th I walk. I have nearly a two hour drive home and if I stay to the death it becomes a three hour drive. Certainly after a victory that three hours seems to fly but after a loss....
I was in Melbourne for the Hawks game and stayed till the bitter end.Comment

I recall a piece by Peter Fitzsimons about that. A bunch of sad Swans were on the bus heading for Central while one passenger, not wearing any colours, was huddled over his tranny. He seemed pleased with how things were going and they assumed he was a Cats supporter until he jumped with excitement yelling out "Nick Davis!" or words to that effect. The rest of the bus wanted to know what was happening, joined in the yelling and screaming and rolled into Central singing "Cheer, cheer" like a demented choir. Great fun! There was one in 2005 a few had left also and regretted it BIG TIME afterwards.

my fav moment in the game was the one on one lead of Morton second qtr against Nick "the gimp" Maxwell
Morton out battles one on one Maxwell and Morton takes a fine mark against a strong defender !
It had to be the "Marcellus Wallace" moment of 2013
what a classic - Nick Maxwell looked on in disbelief with that ball of cotton shoved half in his nostrils and half in the back of his mouth : ) ...... with tape all round his head.......
"well bring out the Gimp" saids Z
"the gimp is sleeping".......saids the hired hand !!!
play the music !!!!

Yep I'm like that too - its amazing what difference 10 minutes makes at the SCG to the overall time to get back to Canberra. I don't like to leave early, but if we are getting flogged and playing poorly, then I like to get away for the looong drive down the Hume. Interstate though I stay till the bitter end and in finals - as you never know what might happen. There was one on 2005 a few had left also and regretted it BIG TIME afterwards.

I remember seeing this, or something like it, before:
?NEVER LEAVE, NEVER GIVE UP ON THEM AND ALWAYS BE THERE AT THE END TO CLAP THEM OFF THE GROUND. WE ARE COLLINGWOOD SUPPORTERS SON, EVEN IF THEY BEAT US, WE ARE STILL BETTER THAN THEM?!(my mum)
I just googled and found it as a Collingwood supporter's signature block on another board, so perhaps I've seen it in that context elsewhere.
When I read it before I was impressed with the sentiment. We stay to the end, though maybe not always until they've left the ground. One, maybe two exceptions in 10 years, at Olympic Park against Collingwood. I couldn't imagine leaving the SCG while the game was still going on.
I do understand the transport issues. We have to get to the UNSW park and ride and then drive out past the airport to the M5 and Hume. Certainly if we had kids it would be tempting to get on the road a little early.ConradComment
