After years of supporting the gutsy team that never gave up but was always under-rated, it's kinda weird to be supporting the glamour super-slick team that is smashing all before them. I've done the only thing I could do in the circumstances - I've upgraded to the Premiership Club!Comment

i came home after the collingwood game thinking that i had never seen a swans side so dominant. however, the half between quarter time and three quarter time that i watched was the most comprehensive performance i have ever seen. i have seen some terrible quarters (v essendon last year, north in 2004 ??) some great quarters (adelaide 2006 ?? hawthorn in the gf) but that was just beyond belief. i suppose some of those games in circa 1986-87 at the scg must have been like this but wow.Comment

My admiration for Longmire keeps growing. It's more than just the quality of the players. He and the rest of the coaching staff have put together an incredibly well oiled football machine. They know where to go and what to do throughout the game and they can do it a high speed.
The other 3 of the top four also demonstrate this as well, and we will see as the season progresses which footy machine works best and longest.Comment

I can't say how excited I am about the weekend's game. I just hope they can keep the intensity up into September. Here's a few thing which I took away from it:
1. Big Mike Pyke's earned himself a hard tag. With Reid and Walsh down, Sanderson clearly concluded that he could blunt our defence by stapling Douglas to Pyke. It didn't turn out too well for Adelaide.
2. Mitchell is INTENSE. I wouldn't have thought it would be possible for a newcomer to stand out in the Swans midfield by being more intense than everyone else, but he's done it. The lad makes the energiser bunny look tired and slow and it rubs off on everyone around him. It's no mistake that the increase in the intensity of the team overall has happened as he's entered it.
3. Jesse White can dominate. With determination and confidence he's demonstrated he can be a power forward. Let's hope last Saturday was his breakout game, he brings some consistency to the table and by season's end he'll be known as the Great White Shark.
4. Mitch Morton is getting very, very dangerous in front of goal. Whether it's lurking in the goal square and taking marks behind the defenders, redirecting wayward shots at goal with his ballerina tricks, taking intercept marks as they switch across half-back or applying forward pressure in defence, Morton is looking confident and competent. His work leaves defenders in two minds and puts them under a lot of pressure, which provides opportunities for players like Bolton, McGlynn, White and Goodes to find space in front of goal.
5. Our big men do a lot of work off-ball. Aside from the obvious work sprinting to provide a target up forward and providing first use of the ball at stoppages, our big fellas do a lot of work stopping would-be tacklers from getting to the ball carrier. Look through the highlight reals of midfielders sprinting through traffic and you'll see a big man standing in the way of the defenders, providing the space needed to create attacking opportunities.
6. Our back 6 have found their groove. Dre has finally found his place in the team, Rampe is getting better with every game and McVeigh has found a new place to excel. Who would have known that with the injuries sustained down back we'd recalibrate so quickly, but they've done it. Full credit to Longmire and friends for identifying the right players to fill the open roles.
7. Crouch is developing a culture to rival that of the senior team in the reserves. It would be easy to sit in the reserves, look at the senior team, and conclude that you'll never break in and then give up. However, despite the quantum leap from NEAFL to AFL, those given a chance in the big time have consistently slotted into the team and played their roles well. A number of commentators said last year that it was the Swans bottom six players which set them apart, not their stars. To mine, this points to a very good reserve team with players determined to play their part.
8. Bags not being on the match committee. How Longmire and friends are going to make the coming changes I don't know. At least they can be assured that anyone dropped will be ready and raring to jump straight back in at the slightest opportunity.Comment
