Mumford isnt going to GWS just because of one anonymously sourced story. If they dont get Buddy they still need a marquee player. It won't be Mumford.

Judging by what I saw today, what they really need is a new coach. Their skills were very ordinary and their defence was a dog's breakfast.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I am sure Mummy's management is well aware of the interest from Giants and also I think from Melbourne, Norf and Collingwood. So there will need to be some slick negotiations to keep him.

I thought they were generally fine, to be perfectly honest. When the game was on the line they just seemed like they were clearly a bunch of kids- it was experienced heads on the Bulldogs side that got them over the line.

Davis might be back next week, he'll make a huge difference for them- if they can have Gilham and Davis playing at the same time it will make a world of difference. Davis is still very young himself, but he plays with a calm head and very much marshalls the troops out there in the backline for them. Davis was very good at directing things from deep defence- a lof the turnovers you see are because you have nervous kids trying to bring the ball from deep in defence and targeting an inexperienced half back line- if you can get Davis or Gilham as a marking outlet target more often than not around the half back line when bringing the ball out then you look a lot better; right now they have their forwards having to push up way too far to provide an outlet.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I know that the way we got Tippett we have no cause to complain. But having the first pick in the PSD gives GWS a free pick for any out of contract player in the league. There should be some obligation that they negotiate in good faith. I have this sickening feeling that I'm an Adelaide Crows supporter bitching about the Swans offering unders for Tippett.

There is a BIG difference. We OFFERED unders. No trade was done. We PAID the player OVERS to ensure we got him in the PDS because SEVENTEEN others teams could have potentially taken him before we got the big fella.

However, other years we have had the first pick in the PSD & used it to recruit talent (& Dermie) from other clubs for free : Richard Osborne (1993), Dermott Brereton (1994), Paul Roos (1995).
Realistically, that's what the draft is for. Help the weak clubs become stronger & more competitive. My gripe is that GW$ is ALREADY full of 1st round picks. How much of a leg up does THAT farcical hodge-podge of a side wanna get?!
When Brisbane was formed they got 2 discards from each club (often those who had played the minimum number of games, were old has beens, or had long term injuries, or who had even recently retired) & had to pay a fortune for their license.
GW$ gets millions & a team full of high draft picks.
Brisbane Bears first year: 6 wins
                GW$ first 1 & 2/3 years: 2 wins
I hope that all GW$'s young talent are offered big bucks in future years to join other clubs especially when the GW$ cap concessions are removed & they have to fit all those kids under the cap at market value.

If we can somehow work Ben Reid into the deal, I'd be content with that outcome...

Very good point, although you would think he would be a must keep for the pies....maybe O'Brien might be thrown up although he seems to have a massive gap between his best and worse.

A straight swap, Ben Reid for Mummy. Then we can trade Reg to the desperate Saints for their 2nd round pick. I think that works fine all around.

We can't afford to lose Mumford - his work on the ground and ability to get a handball away in tight is so much better that Pyke's it is not funny - you watch the difference in link play when Mumford is involved and when Pyke is involved - highlighted even more in the wet - no doubt Pyke has improved around the ground with marking and kicking for goal, but in tight where Mumford is like an extra midfielder it is not even close - would be a huge loss even with his injury issues.

                              inclined to agree

but we have a serious level of depth right now

unless Pykey and White are willing to take a small deal $ then we can stack the ruckmen if not we cant pay $500k for Mummy and also pay a amount to the other lads to back up

the twist though is if Goodes is struggling leading into 2014 due to constant niggling injuries like 2012 and now 2013......then Whitey needs to stay for depth in the ruck and key forward role unless we trade for a comparable key forward ?

interestingly though we are really driving hard for finding the next pyke with the 3 lads we are training from the USA
