I know that I am easily confused, but why is the inference always that it is the player manager who is responsible for making sure that it is applied for their client? It is always brought up when Ireland responds to COLA comments, which is why I was led to believe that it isn't mandatory.

That's just nonsense, I'm afraid. As I said before, we played better than them on Grand Final day...but to suggest we were the BEST team of 2012 just isn't right. Nobody who is not a Swans supporter would agree with you."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

A handful of moves will affect to whole trade period.
If Buddy stays then Hawthorn won't have the money for expensive players like Mumford. If Daisy Thomas stays then Collingwood also won't have a lot of room, unless Shaw goes.
I've got no idea what we are REALLY up to. Reports we haven't put a contract to Mummy yet, talk of Perris being asked to only be a rookie, indications that we once again will only have 38 on the main list - are all these things to make $ room for Buddy? Surely not, it just doesn't seem the professional way of the recent Swans.
So we now have four places available on the reduced size main list of 38, six if both Jesse and Mumford go, and no one comes in via trade.
Very interesting weeks ahead, can't wait for the real action to start!Comment

Wow, this is unbelievable that people are anti Buddy.
Yes I hate him as a Hawks but would LOVE him as a Swan.
The guy is one of the best talents in the game and a marketing dream. He can play multiple positions and is the perfect replacement for our superstar Goodes who most likely will play his last year in 2014 (not to mention ROK and Shaw will probably be gone next year).Comment

To be fair, we have always sidestepped the issue of how it is allocated to the players. Andrew Ireland has always stated that player managers know that there is an extra 9% allowance so they make sure that their client's deal reflects it. There is never a mention of all players automatically receiving an extra 9%."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

On trade radio Jude Bolton, who is handling Jesse White's negotiations, says Jesse is keen to move to Melbourne. It seems he has family there and his clothing label runs out of Melbourne, what clothing label doesn't, it is the centre of the fashion industry. The Pies are the interested party and I would hate to lose him to the Pies as I hate them so much. In fact I think it would be a move that will come to bite us on the bum as they will then have two genuine forwards. Not only that the coach might actually use him correctly according to his strengths; leading, pack busting etc. I don't like Buckley but he knows a winner when he sees one and to get Jesse the pies would be on a winner.
So now we go into next year minus Mummy and Jesse. This isn't a good look as far as I am concerned and if the footy department let this happen then they are screwed in the head. Buddy WILL NOT come to the Swans, we can't afford him. We would have to retire half the team to afford him, our bid is to @@@@ GWS off, simple.
Who replaces Jesse & Mummy? There are no ruckmen except Jolly in the trade period and big Sammy is maybe another year away from playing consistent senior footy. To bring Tippett to Sydney and pay him so much and then use him in the ruck seems a waste of money to me as he is a key forward and that is why we got him. If that happens then rule out next year for a premiership.
We have some good players coming back from injury but is Sam Reid a forward? Considering his rotten kicking within 40 metres, he kicks anything over that, I would say he needs massive work to become one. I would look at putting him back but that would leave a gap in the forward line at CHF. Some sides have filled those gaps with smaller players but in the end they crumble against a side who has very good KPP forward targets. Look at the Hawks with the Gunston, Roughy, Hale & Buddy forward structure. They are then boosted by true crumbing forwards, Rioli, Bruest & Puopolo. That has been a problem at times for us as we don't have enough true crumbing forwards. Benny is a wide receiver, same with Bolts, Birdie & Jed. The only natural crumber forward is BJ.Comment

Someone made a pretty good case earlier for us being the best team of 2012. We won when it mattered - and we won all year too. It's just that the media will always rave about Hawthorn with their list and W/L ratio."Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the Swans win pretty."Comment

Just announced on GWS Twitter that they have officially withdrawn their offer to Buddy as he is going to join the Sydney Swans
Confirmed here http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment

I think we have our outside running midfield nailed. But I feel that we are still one inside midfielder short to help out Kennedy and Mitchell. Parker could be our man but I thought he was great as a half forward.Comment

Melbourne radio has gone into 'meltdown'!!! Daniel Harford & Cameron Mooney saying how can the Swans do this?! They would like to meet the Swans guy that gets these deals done! haha
They're worried that the Swans will now be premiership favs!
Pickering (wont answer his phone) apparently has informed GWS that Franklin will accept the Swans offer.
