Who would have thought we could get our hands on both?!
One thing that I am really annoyed at. The obvious Hatred Eddie McGuire has for the red and the white is so obvious, yet he always gets media coverage and the first one to speak out. Someone needs to tell Eddie Sydney needs the COLA allowance because we have to feed the Apes we have in our team!!!!!

Eddie hates Sydney more because he had such a massive failure trying to run Ch 9.

Unfortunately, Eddie on his massive income (when living in Sydney) would not have noticed the cost of everything.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

I don't think this thread has any hope of beating the Tippett thread. If the deal is done on Friday, we can close this thread, and all move on to the COLA thread.

Speaking of COLA wouldn't it be ironic if Coca Cola becomes a major sponsor of the club, and the sponsorship money forms a large part of the marketing salary cap to which no COLA applies.!!!

Come on Coke do it, you know you want to.

Coke ads featuring the whole Sydney list including Buddy splashing around on Bondi Beach, with Russell Morris singing "Come and see the the Real Thing".

Red & White matches the Coke colours, its a natural fit. I should be in marketing seriously

For those a bit younger than me I'm sure you"ll understand find an old Coke ad, when Coke was "the Real thing" somewhere on U Tube.

Are we forgetting that Tippett has only three years on his contract??
If we need too we can cut that one in half or on sell him.
This deal is about the next three to four year and premierships.
Please tell me how many club are in the premiership window right now, not many i think.
So many club are rebuilding due to the draft of the last few years being tailor made for GC and GWS!
I think this will be one of those rare moments when only a few clubs can legitimately have a crack1

I don't like the deal I like the idea of Buddy coming to Sydney but this deal seems to go against everything Sydney have built over the last 10 years. We have had a good spread of "stars" and plodders our stars were paid well but not over the top which allowed us to occasionally chase a targeted player. I think there is a high level of risk involved with this deal not just the financial risk but the risk to the ethos of the swans and potentially damaging current player relationships with the club. Mumford has been played and I for one think its pretty shoddy treatment and un swan like - if buddy wasn't coming would Mumford been offered that 3 year deal instead of 2? Back ending a deal like this is a massive risk to the club now and in 5 - 10 years time. just my 2 cents.

            Cheers

Front end, front end, front end!! How many times must it be said?

With great risk, comes great reward.

I follow the Premier League, and the NFL, and the moves in the AFL are SOOOO BORRRRRING!! This one is finally something to really take note of. And we're the ones to do it. We leave no stone unturned. I could not be happier to have our current management at the helm. I say scrap the COLA and we'll still pull the big deals off!!

I heard somewhere it was "middle-ended" for lack of a better term. Cheaper while Tiptruck is getting a big cheque, then big money, dropping away at the end.

                  So who will go?

Obviously Mumford and White. Should the Swans package Mummy and either their first pick or another player for the No 1 pick?

TWR chasing Liam Pickering and also the Sw.ans Department

A caller said that it was obvious from an interview that he did with Goodes a few weeks ago regarding the indigenous side that he really wanted to play with Goodes and that may have been a major deciding factor.

My nephew, who is a Hawks supporter, told me that Buddy wants to play with Adam Goodes before he retires as he is his idol. This has been reiterated today on several sites. Buddy also has business intersets and wanted to move to Sydney at the start of the year. Several things got in the way. The Tippett deal and his contract the main factors.

However, it doesn't work like that. You shouldn't snap up every great player just because you can.
Simon I agree. There is some bloody thought at the Swans at the moment that champion players make a team. But my understanding is players make a champion team not the other way around. It is all about teamwork. I worry that some of our players might get a bit envious of Buddy and Tip. Take Jetts, Hannas (resigned for 4 at $300k), Sammy ($300k/4) get the drift.

Answer No. We gave Joey a new deal last year. Lukie & Hannas each signed deals Lukie & Hannas both signed for around $300,000/yr. Birdie is on just a little more. ROK's contract is up next year and he will probably retire anyway.

Adam Goodes, Buddy Franklin, Lewis Jetta and Magic as the Swans Academy coach - it is pretty special.

Skilton fears Franklin a risk to Swans

Really interesting read on the SMH. Especially loved this part from Leo Barry you star "They can squeal all they want. If a player wants to go to another club and they can't manage their salary cap as well as the Swans, that's their problem"

I understand Bobby's concern and so he should be concerned. Buddy purportedly has some substance issues. He is a bad boy and does not conform to team regimes. This year he was told by Clarkson either do as I tell you or piss off. He did as he was told and Clarkson did as he promised Buddy and did not play him as a totally key forward for most of the year. He played him on a wing or as a second winger the same as we played Jesse. Buddy pulled his head in but can he contain his lifestyle in Sydney as all his friends in the fashion and entertainment industry live here.

                          Comments on concerns about Buddy:

The players know, or should know, that Buddy is a celebrity football player. In fact, the number one celebrity footballer in the country. He is the number one merchandiser in football. He sells memberships and puts bums on seats. Buddy pays his own way, even before he steps foot on the Ground.

If the players are jealous, what can you do. They are not Buddy. I don't know what good it does to be jealous of people we are not.

Buddy comes across as a pretty nice guy, and seems to have the support of AG and MOL, which goes a long way at he Swans. It will also be fantastic if he can contribute to attracting young Indigenous athletes to Aussie Rules and to the Swans in particular.

I think Buddy wants to come to the Swans to get a fresh start and win respect for being more than a party boy and follow in the footsteps of Adam Goodes and become a respected leader off and on the field. Word is that he is a an exceptional trainer.

Somewhere along the line the leadership group was consulted. It is probably that (the fact that they play a deciding role in who we take on board) that calms some of the lingering fear about this move. If our payers, coaches and admin can all comes to terms with it, then I suppose I can too.

Let's hope we don't rue this moment for years to come.

I am sure the defenders are loving it. Great strategy by the Swans, recruit all the best key forwards so we don't have to play on them!
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.
