Alternatively, Shaw will be gone in the not too distant future, so regardless of Smith's future, there's a spot there for a back pocket player.Comment

I think Zak may in due course play the right side inside mid role a la KJ on the left, because he's got a good burst of speed. We've got KJ and Hanners and maybe can add BJ eventually for that left side burst spread out of the packs, but lack that coming out on the right. Even though Jetta is quick, he's not that sort of player. I thought we may have chosen this Zak over the Merrett variety in part because Merrett was a lefty and we already have plenty of those. I feel we tend to use the left side a bit too much because our best kicks are lefties, especially the ones starting the play going forward coming out of the backline. And with Buddy, who also prefers the left side of the pitch, it may become too predictable. Hopefully Jones, and maybe Jake Lloyd can bring some more right sided play and get the likes of Jetta, Rohan and perhaps Towers more involved.Comment

I feel a bit for Lloyd Perris. Those coming into the club through the draft get a fair bit of fanfare. He was rated in the top 20 or maybe 20-30 range but has slipped in largely unheralded on the rookie list. His credentials are first rate. I can see why he and his parents were considering an offer to be on a team list.Comment

Beatson interview re Jones
"we were looking for a small defender to give Nick Smith a bit of chop out there"
how do you interpret that sentence ?
does that mean Jones is being groomed to play on some of the small forwards and Smithy may rotate into the midfield as well as the backs ?
OR
does that mean we may see Jones in the future rotate thru the midfield and backs ?
OR
they just both play in the backs ?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

After reading Kinnear Beatsons' comments on web site am now more disappointed we didn't pick up a GENUINE defender at pick 44. If obe od or bother Reg and Ted go do we may be in trouble. No more rookies I read his comments to mean. Should have gone for Tippert Sully Hourigan (can play at both ends) or Sully.Comment

I guess the Swans must have properly re-assured him and his family that he is highly rated. Fully expect him to be elevated as soon as we get a long term injury next yearComment

BUT I must say if you are matching up on Goodes, Tippett, Pyke, Rohan, Buddy, Reid who will be floating in and out of our forward line at practice - WELL do i need to finish the story ...?
ok
you are going to learn so fricken quickly your short comings and you will also be doing some serious soul searching on how to be competitive against some of the best marking talls around !
I suppose you could also call the Swans off season and scrap games a hot bed for developing the next best tall defenders.........for me AA physically maybe be a lot closer to ready then many other choices at pick 44........to take on the titans of our forward line and gee i hope this shot guns AA and X and AJ and Rampe and Lockyear etc to completely new levels !!"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Just did a quick ins and outs for the year, and it looks pretty good to me. I think we have definitely improved the team.
Out ----- In
Bolton ----- Hewitt
Mattner ----- Laidler
White ----- Franklin
Everett ----- Aliir-Aliir
Armstrong ----- Jones
Mumford ----- Nankervis
Lamb ----- Perris
Morton ----- Derickx
Brown ----- P Mitchell
Ludwig i tend to look at the ins and outs from a who is ready in the club already to step into Snrs regularly and or replace the out going player
Bolton = Mitchell
Mattner = Rampe
White = Buddy
Everitt = AJ
Armstrong = Biggs with maybe Marsh, Jones biting his heels?
Mummy = Tippett will get this rotation with Mike
Lambie = BJ or Harry
Morton = BJ or Harry
Brown = Allir Allir"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Draft pick list mean nothing once they are in the squad. Placing Perris via the rookie list was a one-off opportunity to basically get another pick in the draft.
