We could have elected not to trade either and they would only have been able to take one in the PSD. What trade would we expect for 1st round draft pick with 12 games AND a premier ruckman at the height of his career? I'll say it again, we just got reamed.

Yep. Swans were trying to do the right thing by Mummy and knew their hand was weak. As it turns out, it was stronger than they believed.

But next year when GWS are still desperately trying to entice senior players to join them and again have the first pick in the PSD (because there is no surer thing than them winning the spoon next year), clubs will just refuse to sign off a deal as final until the very end of the trade period to protect themselves from it happening to them.

Yes, well we can only hope that there is a massive exodus of GWS players next year and that we are a beneficiary.

Sure we don't disclose our hand to other clubs when negotiating trades and think it is a bit unfair to expect the same from GWS.

The reality is that Jed would have struggled to be a starter in our side next year. And I fail to see how 35 was us getting shafted when the Saints got 19 for Mcevoy when McEvoy was still in contract and has a good 5 extra years in him than Mummy and is a better player...

We do, however, make sure we get something in terms of a pick upgrade for Jed and Dre. If not then feed them to the PSD

From what I've heard there is a big difference between what GWS put to him and what the Swans were offering. I do not begrudge Jed for taking the better financial deal. If the figures quoted are correct I feel the Swans' offer is on the low side and the Giants offer more than a little high but I guess that's the premium they had to offer to entice Lamb to commit to them. FWIW, he's very settled in the city and was not looking for a move back to a Melbourne-based club.

Fair enough from Lamb's perspective and I don't begrudge him chasing a better pay packet if its on offer.

I don't understand why the Giants would be paying significant premiums to players who don't meet their number one need - significant AFL experience. Do they really think that securing 12-game Lamb is going to be the tipping point to persuading other experienced players to move to them too?

How are they doing coming up with a fair trade for Shaw, a decent player from a strong, successful club who has agreed to join them? Are they still farting around trying to screw Collingwood on that one?

Lamb didn't shaft us, he took an opportunity for career security, more money and more opportunity. Good luck to him and we both move on...

Well I may be in the minority but I think lamb is over rated. He has played 12 games that's all and as I have said before looked over to play in finals with an injury depleted team. We played Cunningham, Biggs and Morton before Lamb.

Their behaviour on that is odd in the extreme. That trade has straight swap written all over it and I can't see the Pies wavering on that at all. Silly really as Shaw is exactly the type of player they need but if he is the best they can get then they are in trouble...

If this deal can't get done tomorrow then I would think Shaw could well end up at the Cattery

The Giants have gutted our reserves squad. They're going to be hard to beat with players like Lamb and Everitt playing for them instead of us. (Perhaps I'm a bit early on the Everitt call). The next thing you know, they'll be coming after Armstrong.

Collingwood and GWS do the Shaw- Adams swap.
We send Lamb to GWS on behalf of Collingwood to satisfy the Giants' greediness.
We send Armstrong to Collingwood.
Swans and Collingwood swap picks 10 and 15.

We sign Dre to a 3 year deal.

End of trade period.

You'd have to think it's more a case of our offer being low than theirs being ridiculously high.

He was obviously happy enough in Sydney - probably prepared to accept our offer, but I assume his agent has gone to GWS and maybe unexpectedly found they were interested (when they realised they could get him for a decent price).

He'd really want to establish himself next year - as others have noted, GWS have plenty of young talent that Lamb will do well to stay ahead of.

Hmmm wishful thinking. The Pies think he's worth a straight swap and resisted effectively swapping their pick 10 for GSW pick 19 (subsequently devalued by a few spots). Even though a downgrade to 15 isn't as bad, they ain't gonna do it.

THE Swans may have pinched Lance Franklin off GWS but the Giants are doing their best to have the last word in the argument with young gun Jed Lamb joining premiership ruckman Shane Mumford at Skoda Stadium on a three year deal worth close to a million dollars.

And there's another article suggesting the Giants pushed Kurt Aylett's final year contract on Essendon as part of the Shaun Edwards trade to clear space for the big Lamb offer

Not too disappointed. Wasn't in the best 22 and fighting against rookies for a spot. Unless they promised him gametime I think he will struggle over the next 3 years to make their starting team.

One thing this highlights is rookies seem more loyal than picks.

I had to read it a few times, but looks like you're saying McEvoy is a better player than Mumford?

Anyway, I think the terse club announcement speaks volumes about the club's attitude to what's happened. i.e. you can't negotiate if you don't know you are in a negotiation...
