    Demtriou's Last Stand

The CEO is leaving at the end of the season. What do you think his legacy will be in terms of the Swans? Has he been good for us in his time at the top? What has he done well and where has he let us down?

Please keep it objective and play the ball rather than the man.
Today's a draft of your epitaph

a great negotiator and a strong enough to deal with some very very very very big personalities in club land !

he has left a legacy in my opinion of a stronger and more professional AFL the last decade

Inspired a premiership in 05 with his Nostradamus-esque prediction of "they'll never win a premiership playing that brand of football".

Well done Andrew Demetriou on a fine career in AFL administration. He is the finest sports administrator in Australia!

I read the AFL commission are going through an executive search process to find the next CEO. I hope they appoint Deputy CEO Gillian McGlachlan, even though some of the potentials mentioned are high grade. Gillian turned down the NRL CEO Job two years ago, and is ready for this opportunity. I hope the AFL will be as loyal to him as he was to them!

If they don't appoint McGlachlan, they will probably lose McLachlan and a lot of trust that people have for each other in that organisation will be eroded.

            He is the logical successor.

I think the AFL will pay lip service to the due process and then hire him.

He's done a great job for the most part. The AFL is way ahead of other codes in how it deals with player misbehaviour and gender and racial issues. The Melbourne tanking saga was a major shortcoming though. We still have a competition that rewards clubs that try to lose.

EDIT: According to the AFL website, Eddie's a contender for the job. I foresee a riot.

And a star-studded field is expected to contend for the position, with Channel Nine and AFL veteran Jeff Browne, Collingwood president Eddie McGuire, AFL commissioner and Seek founder Paul Bassat, Geelong chief executive Brian Cook, West Coast CEO Trevor Nisbett and Melbourne Cricket Club boss Stephen Gough among the early names being mentioned.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

Depends on where you are from and what team you support will be how you viewed the demtrious regime. If i was a supporter from one of the melbourne teams living in melbourne i would say good riddence..but the reality is we have thrived under his rule.

What the code needs is a admin from melbourne, preferable one of the melboure big 4, so he can bring the game back to victorians. /s

I've already said that I want Mcglaglan, but I think Paul Bassatt would be interesting!

Seek is a wonderful success story. The politics could get interesting on that one! Richard Goyder (CEO Westfarmers) is part of the AFL Commission. Paul Bassatt is a board member of Westfarmers.

Andrew Demetriou will go down as the best administrator the AFL has ever had.

I often read supporters of other codes wishing that they had Demetriou as their CEO.

Absolutely killed Wayne Jackson and Ross Oakley.

As much as I dislike Eddie, he's actually a great salesman and promoter.

Would be crap for the swans though and extremely good for Collingwood. Eddie is very big on capitalism and I could totally see him scrapping the cap.

The trouble with Eddie is he shoots first and thinks later, if at all.
My money would be on McLachlan.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
