By that logic, it's more than clear that there's been no incentive for Western Sydneysiders to come to Bondi either. Wouldn't you think that there are other factors besides Bondi (a weird example as I think Buddy is the only Swan to currently live there) for recycled players to make their way to the Swans?

We don't need to canvass the suburbs that all players live. That would breach the privacy act, but is there only one Swan on the list who lives in Bondi Beach? There would be a couple of them who live in Coogee as well, another great lifestyle suburb.

There are three key components that attracted Tippo and Buddy to the Swans:

      - Bondi Beach Lifestyle
      - Well Regarded and Successful Football Club
      - Lack of Media Intrusion

I will leave it up to those on Red and White to debate the components order of importance to each player.

These three key components are key selling points for the Swans in attracting players from Victoria and Adelaide.

The free agency kings in the coming years will be the Gold Coast Suns. When they become a powerful club they will be able to attract the best free agency talent. They have sun, great beaches, great apartments, meter mades and Conrad Jupiter's! They also don't have an intrusive AFL media like Sydney.

Sorry Triple B. That was an accident.

There's something missing from this list.

        What can it possibly be?

Great stuff Ludwig. Congrats on the Hanners joke earlier as well. I enjoy your posts because you get the 'Bondi Beach' thing.

Lack of media intrusion ? Not sure that one was too well researched

Tommy Walsh must live in either Coogee or Bondi Beach - it's the rule...

I respectively disagree Melbourne Bloods. The only person who is attracting media attention is Buddy Franklin.

When was the last time you read about Kurt Tippett going for a surf or having a beer? When was last time you read about "Horse" being at the Randwick races?

Buddy is taking a little bit of heat at the moment, but that's it. If it was only Tom D and Hanners at the beach with those beautiful women it would not have been a story.

All other Swans apart from Buddy are living very comfortably without media scrutiny.

It's not his fault he's Buddy! He's at the beach for crying out loud! Syndey media are arguably worse than the Melbourne media when it comes to paparazzi

If they had a clue about footy , then these players would be getting attention! They clearly don't hence it's only Buddy as he's the biggest name in the biggest game in the country, so they have to pay attention to him.

Good stuff Melbourne Blood. Buddy is also World class "modelizer". Going out with Jacinta Campbell and charming Kate Upton (most famous swimsuit model in the World) in the Bird Cage.

He is also a rebel (with a cause) and the most electrifying player in our game.

He is the full media package able to dominate front page, back page and gossip page.

He is a great front man, taking all media attention away from other Swans players unless they are seen with him. Watching the INXS tele movie recently you could easily draw comparison between Buddy and Michael Hutchence, due to their media power and frontman abilities

All good points, and I'm beginning to think the powers that be may have been banking on this to some extent when they recruited him. He may not be getting in the news for the right reasons ( although he's not really done anything wrong ). But he is a swans player making news. He's bringing the swans and AFL attention in Sydney. As long as he doesn't do anything illegal or immoral , I think they would be happy for him to be making the papers regularly. Exposure for the code and the club. Can't put a price on that in league dominated NSW. ( not necessarily the coach mind, , but the board, president etc. couldn't be too upset about his media presence)

Membership numbers would tend to back you up on this, especially with Melbourne numbers being no higher than normal.

And Jude Bolton gives Buddy strong support.

"There have always been a few beat-ups in football ? after all, there are more reporters covering the AFL than the Australian political scene. Which is why it is staggering the Swans have avoided the limelight for so long.

                                Enter Buddy Franklin."
