It seems that the SMH, Age, AFL website are all running bits of an interview with Franklin that will be shown by Ch 7 before our Sat night match. The following comes from The Age article:

"Declaring the personal challenges he endured after Sydney?s recruiting coup was formalised, Franklin has also tabled the important role psychologists play for footballers - an observation that suggests he has benefited from the expertise in recent times. In an interview with Channel 7?s Saturday Night Footy to be broadcast before the Swans host Collingwood - Franklin's second game in new colours - the 27-year-old said he had found good balance since forging new friendships in a new city, but that it had not come easy."

An SMH version shows the scrutiny so far has been more intense than foreseen but they expect (hope?) it to settle down as the normal grind of the season progresses.

.....And, 'Pebbs' [O?Keefe], I think if I had a fight with him he wouldn?t be playing the next week, that?s for sure.

Do the guys get any media training at all? You would know the question about ROK would come up in any interview with Franklin.

ROK would be obviously down at the moment.........and after hearing that comment, I bet he would not mind putting the gloves on and going a few proper rounds.

I know there is no intended malice, but it shows a selfish side that is very un-Swans.

Try again Buddy in another interview, something like:

And, 'Pebbs' [O?Keefe], there is no way I would want to fight him! He is one of the toughest, fittest guys going around. Seeing first hand how hard he trains and how maticulously he prepares for footy, he is such a great competitor. He is someone I have really admired since moving to the club.

It's not Buddy's fault Goods78. He has not been able to get out of the house to go to media training school!

I think Buddy's comment comes across as the tongue in cheek comment it was intended to be. I don't have a problem with it. Fact is that Franklin is several inches taller and many kilograms heavier than ROK and so would be at a significant advantage if they ever did get into a scrap.

I would back ROK every day of the week. Tougher and stronger than Franklin.

Buddy would just be able to palm him off and he couldnt reach.

I too would back ROK in the fight. I think Buddy would run straight out of Moore Park and, franticly yell for Hanners to get his car, which I'm sure is parked in Andrew Ireland's reserved spot.

Did it occur to you that Buddy's answer was all the question deserved??

Most of the players have been pissing themselves laughing at the whole stupidity of the rumour, so fair play for Buddy to say something equally stupid in response...

I agree with Goods78 that it was disrespectful to ROK. You should also never joke about violent acts in a press conference. It sends the wrong message to young boys and girls who play the game!

                        1. My unsolicited yet informed advice to Buddy is don't complain about the paps, because that will keep them coming back for more. If he hasn't already done so he needs to set up his own charity that helps, say, indigenous kids and be seen to busy with it. Contrived, sure, but it works to make him look less like a philandering beach bum which is how he's being framed (the right word) now.

                        2. I feel a poll coming on.

I also read in the back pages of the Daily Telegraph that Hanners was pulling beers behind the bar with Beau Ryan at the Ettamogah Pub in Kellyville.

                              No.

Fact or fiction, what journalist would not have asked Buddy that question in his first major interview?

It's a terrible response and I think ROK would not be amused.

                                Journos don't change much.
When the newly-installed Archbishop of Canterbury Geoffrey Fisher set off to visit the US he was warned to be very careful in answering questions at the press conference. Early in proceedings he was asked, "Are you going to visit any nightclubs while you're in New York?" He carefully batted the ball back to the bowler, "Are there nightclubs in New York?"
Headline next day: Archbishop's first question, Are there nightclubs in New York?"
The question to Lance got what it deserved, rubbish returned to sender.
I'm tempted to ask if the "feed" in the title could be changed to "feel".
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
