Not sure Myke is a walkup start for Derickx' spot just yet.
No doubt a fit and firing Myke offers more than Derickx, but he has been neither fit nor firing so far in 2014 due to his very limited pre-season. It looks like we will be going with just the one ruckman from here on in and a 3 or 4 week spell in the seconds whilst Derickx is still playing well may get Myke some fitness which he is definitely going to need if we continue playing just the one ruckman.
Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09
On the other thread i stated my case that Pyke is an automatic selection when fit. However i do believe we can afford to let him get back to match fitness in the reserves. Tom D is playing well enough and the Cats don't have a ruckman of note
I'd just bring Benny in for BJ, everyone else deserves their spot.
Dropping Derek with a kiss would be most unfair, he has started taking some screamers and just needs to hold onto those chest marks now....

Longmire is also on the record as saying that both Naismith and Nankervis will get some opportunities in the seniors this year.
Would be hilarious if we had an abundance of ruck riches at the end of the year.
I know some will see this comment as idiotic, and it needs to be within the context of how much salary cap he takes up but Pyke is playing for his future so he needs to pull his finger out...
If he's fit Pyke would likely get the nod ahead of Derrickx, just on experience. TD's only played 10 AFL games. He's not as good in the air or the ruck contests but is better at ground level than Pyke.
I can't see Derrickx overtaking Pyke in those areas, but if he does I'm sure Mike will take it better than Darren Jolly did.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news
Whilst I don't know how we can fit all the talls in, and I'll leave that for wiser heads to ponder juggling, I'm not sold on being able to just bring in Pyke as a straight swap for Derrickx. Mike's returning from a hamstring injury that we wouldn't want to push too much, and will also be down on match fitness- Tom appears to have been doing between 80-90% of the ruck load the last couple of games with Reid/Tippett doing the around the ground/forward line backup work. There are big question marks in my mind over whether Mike will be able to ruck for that long first game back, and if not whether Sam (assuming Kurt won't do around the ground ruckwork) is ready to spend a significant amount more time in the ruck to allow Mike to ease back in.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
Re Hanners, if we are forced to replace him I would prefer to go with a player more similar in style than Rohan ... against Geelong I think we already have enough speed; our challenge will be matching them in hardball gets, quick handballs and accuracy of disposal. I'd go with Tom Mitchell if he is fully fit plus I'd have Lloyd starting, not sub.
Agree that Pyke and McGlynn come back in for Tom D and BJ.
CIA Agent to Policeman: "Have you ever had anti-terrorist training?"
Policeman: "Yes, I was married once."
I think B Jack needs a good month straight of reserves footy. He hasn't been among the bests for the reserves and he looked really low in confidence last night. Time to try someone else (Rohan again?) in the fall-back sub role.
I agree that Pyke and Derickx can't both be in the team now Tippett and Reid are back.

Which is why Triple B's suggestion of giving Pyke a couple of weeks to run around in the reserves and really get fit (because he'll be able to spend less time on recovery and more time training) makes a lot of sense. Come finals, I'd rather we have Pyke in the team because he's a more skilled and well rounded footballer than Derickx. But for the time being, while Derickx is doing what is needed for this time of year, it's a great opportunity to set Pyke up for a good second half of the season by enabling him to catch up on his interrupted pre-season.
