Ugh. 7mate Canberra show two ads after Westhoff's goal and we return to coverage with 1 second remaining. Incompetent morons.

Utterly incompetent Channel 7's coverage (even when taking it straight from Fox!)"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I think one of the most inspired calls of the day came before the siren even sounded. Having Pyke sit out this game was a massive difference to winning and losing it and im pretty proud of John to emit him. He knew we needed the fittest players we had and I thought it was the correct call. Cant have a 200cm Ruckmen with poor match fitness come in for his first game in 5 weeks against the best team in the comp. Well played Mr Longmire.

To be fair on those two, 30 games ago Port were in dire straights. I do agree they tend to continue with it way too much though. Share the love boys!Comment

I thought Pyke would have been handy at FF today. No matter though, in the end.The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

We have gone hard in another forum, but I agree with all your above points. What a great game between two great teams.Comment

Ruck options
Yes PA's Lobbe gave Derrickx an hiding in the ruck today, maybe the better option would be Pyke. We played a great 2 1/2 quarters but after that we made some silly errors. Great 2nd half by Buddy and he was the difference in the end. Though not huge possessions I was really impressed with some of the things Lloyd did today. But since Port Adelaide got about 50 more possessions than we did today, I cannot complain about the win.Comment

I thought Cunningham, B. Jack and Lloyd gave run and played their roles well.
Not playing the extra ruckman was the correct call. We needed the extra chasing capability against Port.
I wonder with Hanners ankle not looking good if Dan Robinson or Zak Jones will come in. They may play Membrey as an extra forward!Comment

Tom was certainly soundly beaten at centre bounces but it wasn't his fault that Ebert won the centre clearances time and time again. Port was just so much more tougher at centre bounces. After quarter time our backs were under serious pressure because of Port's centre clearance dominance.Comment

A great win. Buddy saves the day. We were really out on our feet. Port certainly do seem like the fittest side int he comp. They finished a lot stronger than us.They killed us in the 4th qtr. But sometimes you just have to scrape through.
This win was so important. Now we only have 2 tough games left. But we were nearly at full strength and could have easily been beaten. I think we have to take something out of this game to improve the side, because Buddy may not always be there to save the day.
A few points stand out for me:
1. Rohan didn't record a stat. He was way off the pace of the game, which was very disappointing. I don't know what the problem is, but it's a worry. I hope he can find his mojo again.
2. I hope this is the last game we see Tom Derickx in the seniors. He's done a decent fill in role, but he is nowhere near AFL level. Bring back Pyke, and if we need another ruckman, bring in Nanko. We were getting killed in the centre clearances, mainly because Derickx could not compete with Lobbe. We were virtually playing a man down in the second half.
3. The defence has become very leaky. Ted is a bit down, but still playing well. But something is not there. I think we need some more speed an height in defence. Laidler has done okay, but I would drop him and move Reid to CHB. Bring in Membrey and give him a go in the forward line.
4. I am pleased with the progress of Cunningham and Lloyd. They played well today. We may have to get a few more newbies in the side over the next few weeks when the opposition is not so tough. I thought we really missed Benny today. We can't be so dependent on having a full list. It doesn't happen that often.
Anyway, Great Win. Looking forward to the replay in Adelaide.Comment
