Yes Tom looks tired but it would be cruel to drop him for the Tigers game so he can't perform against his old team and show how far he's come. And there's no way that we will risk Pyke alone after his long break. So I bet we ignore the weather and play both. I agree Hanners shouldn't be played unless 100%. It'd be great to see some of the kids get a game before they are really needed with the next injury. Rohan should get a full game so he has a run and gets some confidence. B Jack wasn't bad - or good.

It's harsh to say Tom isn't AFL standard - unless you want to go back to the days when that claim was often made against Cox (how did that work out?). We have played the best teams in the comp over the past month and I can't think who we have who would have done better. He had played TWO GAMES of AFL footy before this season so he's done well on a massive learning curve.

btw Where's LRT? Injured so out of the 2s?

The Tiges is a danger game - we so often relax too much - I still shiver about the Dees game that was Roos' worst loss.

Fibnal point - I wonder if Nick Mal will play? There was definitely something wrong with him and his kicking on Saturday.

I thought that there must have been a problem with the ball at one stage as so many players had problems kicking to a player and even hand balling to someone clear.

If not the ball then it must have been the high pressure all players were under.

I think Harry will cover for Hanners in the middle and BJ will end up as a defensive forward in Harry's spot. It seems like an obvious conservative move. This will allow us to bring in Pyke to play FF and give TD a chop out, with GR probably in the vest again.
I havent seen much of Membray, but after all of the calls on RWO about bringing Lamb into the team because he was tearing it up in the NEAFL (and how that has ended up), I'm inclined to think that the coaching staff know more about why Membray isnt promoted than I do.

Tom may be AFL standard for a team like St. Kilda, but he's not at the level required by a side challenging for a premiership. He had 4 disposals and 4 clangers on Saturday; but more than that, he just doesn't do anything to suggest that he is going to improve much. I don't remember the criticism of Cox, but Cox started as a 19 year old. Tom is 26. Although he has played only 13 AFL games, he has had plenty of football at State level over the years. He should be at his peak by now, and probably is.

I believe that two genuine ruckman is not the way to go. We have looked far better with playing the one genuine ruckman. The extra speed, agility and defensive pressure is very important.

Last year we got hurt in the elimination final against the Hawks by playing Pyke, Mumford, Tippett and White. Once the ball went to ground in the forward line, the Hawks easily ran it out. Port were not allowed to run the ball easily out of our forward set up, because we had a highly agile forward line in place. Franklin, Reid, and Goodes are tall, but they are outstanding defensive forwards.

Two genuine ruckman will alter and hinder this agility.

The Swans should play one solo ruckman (Pyke), but rotate and rest him for Tom D every couple of weeks as he tires. It?s like managing fast bowlers in India.

I think it's important that we take this hiatus in the tough part of the schedule to build some depth into the team. There were some concerns that if Membrey didn't get a senior game he would look elsewhere for next season. Well, now is a good time to give him his chance. He's earned it and we can use another forward.

We saw by the underdog wins of WB and Melbourne that it's really the mental attitude that you bring to the game that counts the most. I've got no doubt that the side below can easily handle Richmond. Remember, they are on a 6 day break as well.

I like this team Ludwig. The only change i would make is to bring Membrey onto the field in place of Gary Rohan and bring Jones (or Robinson) into the 21. I would make BJ the sub.

Reid gives us so much more flexibility when down back. After watching Franklin getting double teamed on Saturday, it only re-inforced how good our structure is with Tippett playing. So I like Nankervis coming in to play that role. I see him being the long term replacement for Tippett. He will also help out Pyke in the ruck when in the forward 50 and Reid helps out in the defensive 50. Membrey is certainly deserving of his chance. I feel Rohan needs to go back to the reserves so he can continue his half-back/wing education. Hanners injury on top of McGlynn is causing me concern. Both of these are real hard bodied, crash and bash midfielders. We can cover for one but not both, and Jones or Robinson will bring that. As you rightly pointed out Robinson was not far from Lloyd last year and has continued that form on this year. We need to see what these guys can do now. I don't buy the line that they are not ready. The same was said about Lloyd and Cunningham.

If Rohan is playing in defense in the reserves I don't see why we pick him in the seniors and play him forward. Pointless.
+1. I only see his future with the swans playing half-back wing.

Hannebery to miss 4. Shouldn't be a huge issue with regards the actual 4 teams we play in this period however his ability to get back to 100% fitness will definitely have an impact on our premiership chances. His hard, two-way running is the main feature of his game so hopefully that won't be affected.

I like Reidy upfront preferably - especially when Tippett is out..........It stops teams trying to double team Bud........when you have Goodes and reid upfront as well.

i am more for resting players on a training session or two vs not playing them in a game......... i think it is a real risk early in the season cause we have not secured a top 4 just yet.........a fair few weeks away IF not the last round cause that top 4 is crucial IMO

I would leave Laidler in as I think we are going to need his type f role come the finals..........he has a lot more upside this season as he pushed thru more games

Gary, Tim or Nanny - i would only take two of them

Maybe this can be started as it's own thread by the administrators.

Does anyone worry about the off-field or disciplinary issues potentially impacting Hanners, as he spends injury time on the sidelines? Will he return to his early season ways where it was rumoured that he and Buddy were leading each other astray? Will the club need to put a management plan in place to insure that he maintains high levels of discipline, while out injured?

I'm asking questions not pointing the finger.
