What a cheap shot! You must be Tom Mitchell.

Given Hanners injury is one that needs a non weight bearing period of 10 days, then more time to heal.

If Dr Gibbs had an idea of what kind of injury it was, one wonders about the wisdom of giving him a jab and sending him back out on Saturday.

I can't imagine it helped his injury, or his recovery time frame.

It may have helped us get four points though.

We should still be able to beat all of the teams we play while he's out but we may have lost to Port on the weekend if he didn't come back on.

Hanners' injury I believe is the same as the KJ one a couple of years back. IIRC, KJ never quite got his form back that year. They say Hanners' sprain is not that severe, so perhaps he can fully recover in time for the Hawthorn game in 6 weeks.

There are a number of combinations that we could try this Friday. Pyke coming in should be the obvious one. The 2 new players I would like to see are Nanko and Membrey. Nanko seems like the long term replacement for Tippett. He seems to be a quality big forward that can also play well in the ruck. David Hale and Tom Bellchambers are other prototypes for this role. Membrey would allow Reid to play in defence, which is something worth testiing out over the next couple of weeks. He always looks so good there.

If Reid goes to defence and Laidler stays in the side, perhaps we could try Rampe as our midfield tagger. I think he could be a good matchup for those versatile goal kicking midfielders that play all over the ground. Richmond have 2 good candidates in Martin and Diledio.

These changes would effectively see Rampe coming into the midfield for Hanners, but with a different role. The same thing could be done with Shaw playing more a of midfield role instead of Rampe. The thing I like about Rampe is that he has the size, speed and endurance to go with any midfielder and he has played midfield at lower levels. I don't think Dusty can brush him off that easily with his classic stiff arm.

Nankervis and Membrey have been kicking goals and have been consistently in our best players in recent weeks, so why not use our current injury spike to see how they go in the senors. Hawthorn have had far more injuries to cover than we have and have managed to win games against mid level sides.

He was clearly hobbled when he came back on. It was a brave effort but he wasn't pivotal, in those last few minutes, to us winning.

Yeah, I'd like to see Rampe go to Delidio.

I think Bird would be a likely candidate for Martin.

Though if Rampe got that job, he'd leave him in his wake for endurance. Martin has a small tank.

It depends, I suppose, on where they line up. Martin often plays forward, which would suit a Rampe matchup.

Perhaps Reid might play on Delidio on the wing/ Forward flank.

Does anyone worry about the off-field or disciplinary issues potentially impacting Hanners, as he spends injury time on the sidelines? Will he return to his early season ways where it was rumoured that he and Buddy were leading each other astray? Will the club need to put a management plan in place to insure that he maintains high levels of discipline, while out injured?

I'm asking questions not pointing the finger.
I heard that he has settled down with Cyndi, Mo's sis, so he will stay out of trouble.

Right now is the best time to deal with injuries. We have a pretty good run - in fact the rest of the season is one of the easiest runs around.

                  Richmond always worry me though.
Every time they are down n out and the Swans are playing well they seem to get up against us.

                    Agree.

Everyone calling for mass changes and resting of players, just remember we haven't beaten Richmond on the MCG since 2009 and whist I know the Tiges are a rabble this year, they are a rabble that are capable of doing anything and would fancy their chances against us this week.

Does anyone know if Pyke played for Reserves on Saturday? There is no mention of him in Swans report, which worries me a bit if he did play as he couldn't have been a major contributor. However I assume he did play as someone did the ruck duties and it doesn't seem to have been Nankervis (as below).

"Young ruckman Toby Nankervis, who played the majority of the match deep inside forward 50, was a major contributor for the Swans and finished the match with five goals and a number of contested marks,"

Pyke was in the team list, so I guess he played.

Hmmm like you I think Tom D needs to be replaced. He did remarkably well up to Saturday but he now looks exhausted. But I am concerned that Pyke is either still not fit or out of form, or both.

As for Pyke, I don't know if no news is good news. One thing we do know is that Nankervis has been in good form for the past month, and I think there is every reason to play him this week.

I think most of the positive remarks about Derickx were because he played above expectations, which were set very low. The fact that he got in there and provided a contest instead of just rolling over was enough to make some folks ecstatic, and he did have some good moments. It also helps that we won all the games where he was the No. 1 ruckman. But we nearly got caught out on Saturday when we came up against an in-form ruckman backed up by a strong midfield.

My feeling is that we can't go into the finals with Derickx as our only backup ruck option. Nanko is the obvious next choice. If that doesn't work, we might even have to take a look at Allir and Naismith, but I've got a good feeling that Nanko will work out.
