I think Kennett is acting out on party lines. Eddie's brother Frank Maquire is the state Labor MP for Broadmeadows. Jeff is a former Liberal State Premier.
Jeff would have a go at Eddie because his brother is a State Labor MP.
I love Jeff Kennett, not because I agree with everything he says but because he steps in and gives an unasked for opinion - in areas where the more politically correct 'angels' fear to tread! In this case you would have to think he is 'stirring the pot' for one suspects he will receive a whack or two back.

Nope.
Footy politics trumps state politics. Frank Maguire is a lowly backbench MP in a safe seat.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news
You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler

Isn't that what Eddie does, and the very reason many on RWO dislike him? The only difference may be that Eddie doesn't like being whacked back!
I don't think it would make any difference if he is President or not. His opinions/ideas would still be Magpie based, and he would still have too much influence in the AFL.

Emma Quayle is unlike most Melbourne based AFL journalists, she presents a well informed balanced view. It probably wont take her too far though. I'm biased re Emma as I once wrote to her asking for her opinion on a topic and she set back a detailed reply.
This whole issue is about Melbourne clubs fighting over a reduced size pie in their own state. They are scared at the benefits the academy may bring to Sydney. There would have to be some benefits, if not why would you invest $1m a year. The big benefit is building the grass roots support for AFL in the state. If Sydney has a "bumper crop" this should benefit all as these are players that would most likely would not be playing AFL and unlikely to go to the swans (except 1 or 2).

With rookie upgrades we only draft 4 players at the most in the NAB draft. Sometimes it's three. There will be some good players who are ranked 4 or 5 in the academy who will find their way to other clubs and forge excellent careers.
