Like I said, outside of Melbourne, no one cares.
The AFL aren't exactly flavour of the month at the moment.
What was the name of that bloke that was banned from here from being a tool... Matt something... is kilroy him in disguise???
Can we check this please Mods?Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

You care because you are posting on an AFL fan forum and you go to matches.
And no I am no Matt or whoever you think I am. Are you this arrogant and rude IRL? Seriously.Comment

I am not convinced that it's the AFL's place to fine Eddie in this instance. There is a clear distinction with the Scott case, where he questioned the integrity of the umpires.
Here, Eddie and cohorts were working in the media and targeted another media person. Whether or not one thinks the comments promoted violence against women, this is a social issue, not an AFL matter. The party who should really be taking action is MMM, the radio station that broadcast their comments. By their silence, they are condoning what was said, or at least saying that it is OK material to be broadcast (regardless of whether they liked or agreed with the comments).
When Eddie put his foot in his mouth and insulted Goodes, part of his excuse was how tired and stressed he was. Even this time, others are partly excusing him with observations of the pressure he's under. What Eddie should have done after the Goodes comment (on his own volition) was to step away from all media commitments for a period of time. This would have given him time to "recover" from his tiredness and stress. More importantly, it would have removed him from being the centre of attention for a period of time and given others (mostly notably Goodes) time and space to move on from the comment. Instead, we got more of him. He thrust him and his "apology" centre stage.
This time, too, I think he should step away from media commitments (not just on MMM but on Fox Footy too) for a while so the rest of us can try to forget about him for a while. If he's not willing to do so, I think MMM should stand him down for a period. I noted that the AFL360 crew were critical last night of MMM's silence on the matter. But their employer, Fox Footy, also employs him in a media capacity (as opposed a club president capacity). I would like to think they might tell him that he won't be hosting the Friday night broadcasts for a month or so, to enable him to "distress" and to reflect on his tendency to open his mouth with little regard to the impact of what he says on others.
I suspect time away from the spotlight would be a far more telling punishment for a man who craves attention than would be a fine that would barely dent this Toorak Trillionaire.Comment

hahaha Ahh yes he is, he might not be important in your eyes, but to the AFL he is. He has a lot of clout, he sits on a lot of boards has many mates in high end places and his brother is a Victorian pollie.
For every person that hates Eddie there are 5 who love him in Melbourne.Comment

I guess thats why they are silent, if they did suspend Eddie then their listeners would be up in arms and most likely drop the station. Remember, MMM is the bastion of all things blokey in Australia.Comment

I do suspect the majority of MMM listeners agreed with what he said, its why nothing was said when he did say it and it took a few female journos to catch on and then say something about it. MMM listeners would have just laughed at it and moved on. Its the same people who are now questioning PC and SJW attitudes online and who don't really understand how language can really hurt someone. The same blokes would have no qualms taking the piss out of you and then claiming "It was only a joke geeez lighten up moite" and it was all banter. Banter is the new bogan word for being insulting and a @@@@@, it seems.

Doesn't stop Fox Footy standing him down, given they are employing him in a similar capacity.Comment

Its the same with the footy show, I hate it and i know of a fair few people who also hate it and theres a lot of people who bitch about it online BUT its still on, people still watch it in Melbourne and getting tickets to be in the studio is a long wait. It still atracts top sponsors as well.Comment

So Kilroy, you make generalisations about Melbourne supporters and now surmise that the majority of MMM listeners agreed with his statements. Get a grip.

Sure, but the majority of idiots in Melbourne love him. Again for every smart person ho dislikes Eddie there are 5 dickheads who love him.

Then who will produce the content for fox?
Plus all of fox footy blokes and MMM blokes are all signed through his media agency, hence why they treat him like king alpha bloke. If they go against Ed..then they are fired or contract not extended.
Its also the reason why only Eddies mates were the ones being vocal against Adam and Sydney. They were being voice pieces on his behalf.

So what % of the Melbourne population are idiots? I bet most cities have their fair share of surplus idiots. I don't know what city you are from but maybe you fit into that category.
All of the blokey blokes i know are massive Ed and MMM fans.
Why are you so offended at something thats true. You thnk people who listen to MMM and watch the footy show are versed in social issues? do you think they care for progressive attitudes? Come on give me a break!Comment

The problem with Fox, Eddies media company is the content producer for fox footy. All of the shows are produced by his media company. Sacking Eddie would make it awkward and they would have to part ways with his media company.

I agree. Stop attacking Kilroy, he's just stating facts.....yes, they're unpalatable facts, but they're true. If you don't believe Melbourne has a lot of bogan blokey dickheads, just revisit the Goodes saga from last year. You're right, every city has blokey bogans, but Melbourne ones seem to love Eddie, and that's what is the difference here, and goes a long way to explaining why Eddie is Teflon coated in the biased heartland of the AFL.Comment

Eddie is loved by tradies and simple folk, which there are a huge amount in Melbourne. And these blokes love MMM and SEN and looove the footy show.
They are the facts, Eddie rates a lot in Melbourne, if not he wouldn't be such a public face and his show wouldn't even be around.
Also i dont like anecdotes Nico.Comment
