    A look at his stats show a very good, consistent year considering he didn't start every game and not all his good games were against easy beats.
    I realise this things add up to trade currency but do you really think you are going to get anyone significantly better than Bird with whatever pick we get.
    I don't think draft picks are a true reflection of a players value. I mean, if you picked Beams with pick 4 you would be pretty happy with that choice. And the pick we got for Eski? Well there will be numerous kids taken before the pick that we got that won't even play senior level let alone be a really good footballer.
    End whinge. I hate this time of year, trade week takes too long. Give 'em three days and that's it.

      There was a video on the Swans site some time through the year where Sam mentioned that he was enjoying his new role of wing/on-baller. Give him another year, un-injured, in the role and I think we will wonder we did before. He has the size, speed and, suprisingly, hands (IMO) to excel as ruck-rover (I think that is the position I am thinking of). Goodesy just needs to give him a few pointers.

      Imagine Goodes (circa '05), Buddy and Reid being rucked to by Mummy.

        I agree we must get Mitchell intro tip top fitness. Tommy, Lukie, Birdie, Benny & Joey as the inside mids. Macca out of centre square & either into forwards or back. Kizza forward or outside mid. I would rather turn kizza into a small forward feeding off Buds or Tip.

        Speaking of Tip! NO MORE RUCK! Only at forward set ups. We were murdered in the GF by two specialist rucks who gave their mids first use by great ruck work. We need to do the same. In 2012 we had two rucks & won a premiership over a club that had one. In 2013, Clarkson learned from that and played two ruck and we one and we got slaughtered. He also learned you need a specialist FF in a GF. We didn't!

        As for trade bait. Mal is gone. Membrey is touted as wanting to go, so let him. If he doesn't want to be here he is nothing short of useless to us. I can understand Biggs wanting to leave as he has played quite well, when he has been given a chance at senior level, but still doesn't get upgraded. We drafted Dick & Lockyer (I had high hopes for him) onto the senior list instead of upgrading Biggs. I would not have drafted Dick to the Senior list and definitely would have upgraded Biggs. dick's disposal was dicky at best.

        I don't think we need any trades this year. Trust the draft.
        I thought they had said there will be no change to 3 interchange and a sub in 2015?? Did I miss something?

            And he didn't sign a decent centre mid after he let go of Keane. List management was never Sir Red Nose's strong point, man management was. So his name mentioned in this thread does need to be shot down.

              So's Bernie Ecclestone so why don't we have them as co-coaches?

                This thread needs more tumbrils.

                But that's just my opinion.

                  How much money would be left in the kitty. I am assuming we threw a few dollars at Walsh to get him across? The below is pure speculation:

                  Malceski = $500k ono
                  Walsh = $200k ono

                  ROK = $500k ono
                  LRT = $350k ono

                  And Goodes was out of contract, so his new deal would be well below his previous one, say $800k down to $200k.

                  Now I know a lot of the above would've been thought of with the Buddy and Tippett contracts, but just by guesstimation we could have about $2.1M floating around.

                    OK but take out the sum we planned to pay Buddy for Year 2 plus substantial pay rises for improving players. Not much left I would think.

                      List changes and trade bait

                      Don't forget there is no COLA for new contracts starting from 2015. And that LRT, ROK and Mal would have all been on the veterans list (I think).

                        I thought the COLA was being phased out over the next 2 years, but I don't recall any details on the phases. I think the vets allowance is also going out in a couple of years. LRT ROK and Mal would all have been on the allowance as well as Goodes and Macca. Reg should come onto the vets list next year and Ted and KJ the year after if it's still in place in 2016.

                          Andrew Ireland stated that we will be upgrading Parker's contract before he won his B&F so don't think we will have much left in the kitty - better to lock away what we have first and hope for improvement from within - we have had a good run with trades over the past few years so not really surprising that we are keeping quiet given what we have invested and what we would hope to keep.

                            I have not heard anything about Jake Lloyd being permanently upgraded to the senior list. I'm surprised there has been no announcement about Lloyd when there has been one about X Richards.

                            Is there an issue there to be concerned about?

                            This post is just my speculation.

                              Ireland said we only used $70k COLA of a possible $200k COLA that could have been dedicated to buddy and tip in 2014 anyway

                              i am not worried in the slightest re our management of the cap

                              my only worry is being ready in the backline over the next few years to replace reg and ted

                              time will tell !

                                Has anyone read the article on the solution that the Dons and Port are dreaming up for Ryder. It is thoroughly idiotic.

                                This is what Collingwood and Brisbane can do under this precedent.

                                - Get Beams and Collingwood void his contract so he becomes a free agent.
                                - Collingwood get the 1st round after Darcy Moore as compensation pick 8.
                                - Brisbane then hand Collingwood a pick 5 in exchange for a player. Maybe Jesse White who wants to go to Queensland.

                                This is effectively wrangling the system to get two first round picks. Collingwoods gets a lot more and Brisbane does not need to give up a 2nd round pick.

                                I hope the Port deal is thoroughly rejected.
