The Captain walking is devastating, how do you come back from that ? I feel sorry for the doggies, @@@@ effort by Griffen. Your the captain, be a leader!

The situation looks quite similar to Brisbane last year. I think the Doggies will have to sack the coach and go for a rebuild. Just look at the transformation at Brisbane. They chose some great talent with the picks they got in the draft and now seem to be a destination club. A lot can change in a year. Boyd, Cooney, Morris and Murphy are at the end of their careers. They might as well bite the bullet and start afresh if Griffen goes. If they don't let him go now they might get nothing next year when he goes FA.Comment

Certainly correct in the bigger scheme of things.

I seriously doubt that Kristian Jaksch is worth pick 7 unless it's part of a bigger deal.
What do the Swans do if another star in Melbourne comes out of the woodwork and says that he wants to play for the Swans. It's happened to Brisbane almost three times and now GWS?
I would love it if Alex Rance jumped out of the box and nominated Sydney. Then business would be on.Comment

So Carlton get a young KPD, a rugged on-baller, and slide down 12 spots.

And it works for GWS because they need to trim their list.Twitter @cmdil

It was interesting that Dave Mathews said that Griffin wanted a fresh start in Sydney. I wonder if his management knocked on the Swans door as well and was turned away?Comment

So I see a "throw it out there rumor" that Swans also making a play for Griffin .. pick we get for Membrey (to Carlton), Mitchell plus and another pick. Think GWS would have more to offer so ..oh such a fun time of year.Comment

But Patful is not a tall defender and he is 30......definitely not what the Swans need. At this stage we have pick 38 or maybe something in the 20s after the Membrey trade"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

Still bewildered that there has been no word on Biggs or Lloyd. You would have to think that if Lloyd is offered only a rookie spot....but we put HISCOX on the senior list, that Lloyd would be well within his rights to give a single finger salute on his way back to Victoria. And the same for Lloyd in relation to Marsh staying on the senior list. If it is a matter of spot vacancies then surely it would not be a problem for Marsh to go back to the rookie list to make way for a player who has played 20 games this year!
Biggs would have every reason to have then same attitude with regards to those two players being on the senior list ahead of him."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

Interesting comment just made by St Kilda's Alan Richardson on Trade Radio when asked about Membrey. He said both clubs were working towards a deal but its was dependant on St Kilda finalising another deal first and then he said, and Sydney do to. (rough paraphrase)Comment

We are still in trade week. I think the rookie upgrades and rookie retentions will come at end of this month, as per the timings listed on the attached.
"Friday October 31, by 2pm - List lodgement (1); Rookie promotion to primary list; Retained second and third-year rookies; Scholarship players; Alternate talent player nominations, Total player payment (TPP) estimates."

AFL trade 2014: AFL bans Sydney Swans from trading players in
Sydney has been told it cannot trade any players into the club this year or next unless the club is prepared to bring about an instant end to the cost of living allowance.
We need to trade out Craig Bird, Lewis Jetta and Dan Hannenbery for pick 1, a low first round and an early second round.
I'm sorry there will be no premiership charge in 2015 and 2016.
Let's clear some tightness in the salary cap. Seriously front end some contracts and get the kids some first team experience. We will hit the free agency period of 2016 with some serious cap and by that stage the youngsters such as Heeney, Patrecca, Mills, Dunkley and whoever else we pick up in this draft will be ready.
Ludwig, you have to be with me on this strategy. It's all we can do now.Comment

The strategy has to change.

We actually need to retain as many of our players as possible. This has no effect on our premiership chances for the next 2 years.
As said in a previous post, we weren't in the market for trading in new players anyway this year, so it's only that we have been shut out of the trade-in, FA market for 2015 when we probably won't have any buying power anyway. We can still trade out players for draft picks.
Given that our influx of players over the next 2 years will be substantially limited to the draft, the last thing we need is to get even more draft picks, putting even more eggs into one basket. Now the decisions of Goodes and Shaw to play on looks much better. Retaining our existing players should be the central strategy.Comment

Just when you were on a good roll, you come up with this nonsense.
