AFL slaps trade ban on Swans

- Funny how Tippett hasn't done @@@@ all and people always use him as one of the poster boys for evil COLA.
- Yes, all Essendon players combined will not get suspended for as many games as Tippett. Suspend the whole team? Can't have that - change the rules on the run then so they don't apply anymore!!!
- The Swans MUST win the flag next year, and hopefully then go back to back. That will be the last action we will see for a while. Brisbane and GC will be seen as lifestyle resorts for players, so Sydney won't have that edge either.
- Do I think the Swans will win the flag in '15 or '16? I think this trade ban is more significant than anyone realises. Even one player with any value is needed to help, in a butterfly effect sorta way. The AFL have achieved their secret agenda here - and Sydney just let it happen. Ryder or Patfull is what the Swans needed to maintain powerhouse status. That has been crushed.

I agree. Tippett was extremely disappointing last year but his 2013 (post suspension) was pretty good so I'm hoping he can relive that next year. I would have thought that with Buddy taking the no.1 back an this year he would have shone but for some reason he didn't.

Well put! +1"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

To be perfectly honest, I think over the first 2 seasons, tippett hasn't reached what I would of called a 'pass mark'. He was good in the 2nd half of 2013, but struggled somewhat throughout 2014. He needs a really good pre season, and a good run with his knees, and hopefully he will start repaying properly the club for the big $$$ we are paying him.Comment

Neil Cordy keeps up the good fight.
"If the AFL continue their two-year ban on the Swans trading in players for another year the damage to their on-field competitiveness will be severe."
Trade ban could see Sydney Swans fall down ladder, writes Neil CordyComment

Unlike Hawthorn who really think its their god given right to win flag after flag and play in as many grand finals as possible.

But Hawthorn playing in 3 straight grand finals and winning 2 of them is good for the game.Comment

Not sure about all the criticism of Hawthorn doing the best they can do.
This is exactly what we complain about - when people criticise the Swans for being smart and acting within the rules.
A clubs job is to do all they can for the club, whether that be the Swans, Hawks or even the magpies.
The AFL's job is to regulate this and try to keep the competition even with the draft system etc.The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

But when we do it the narrative changes.
A bit like how we used to flood back with negative tactics hence we are destroying the game. Yet when vic teams used the same tactics they were smart defensivly and just getting numbers back..and it was clever coaching. Roos is basically doing the same at the dees but worst and well where are the calls of flooding and uglyness?Comment

Big deal. we won a flag through that tactic. Clubs complained, Andy D complained, we won a flag.
We sure showed them and they copied, then we moved on.
If you're going to complain that the Hawks have played in the last 3 Grand Finals, then you should also do so when the Swans dominate.
You can't have it both ways.
Either a club if free to be a Brisbane, or a geelong or a Harthorn, or a Sydney, or you should get on board with what the AFL are doing to further equalise the comp.
Obviously they see the Swans being a potential powerhouse for years, hence the unfairness.
what happens if they are wrong though? Instead of keeping things more level, they potentially are grinding us into the ground.
Their assumptions may be well off.
regardless, they set the ground rules, we followed them and we are being persecuted.
TBH I would be laughing if it was happening to most other clubs, so I don't expect much sympathy from other supporters. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

Boo hooo not the swans issue that those clubs are poorly administered!
I dont laugh at other clubs unless they do something reckless and stupid, like the bombers. Maybe i dont have that bastardy that most vfl fans have when it comes to watching this code. While i will dabble in banter i wont take it to the next level like most victorian based fans do.Comment
