I reckon if Dane wants a 4-5 year career, make a million or so, and have a bloody good time along the way good luck to him. Not everyone wants a 17 year career especially if it means abstaining from life's vices. The occasional social ciggy won't hurt him.

Do we really miss him or did he just have a ripper game that happened to be the GF? He had a few shockers in 2012 and i think the legend of AJ is being stretched a bit here. He could have had a poor 2013 and been dropped?

I think he wont play again. At least he got to play in a GF and win it. So really if he doesnt play again its not like he missed out.

Sorry don't agree. I don't remember any shockers and the 2012 Finals campaign was all his and Smithy's. They were stand outs in those games, just wonderful. I think you underestimate his value and ability. Aggression, skill & desire are the three ingredients to making a great footballer and this kid has them all.

The greatest spin bowler in history had to undergo a fitness training to get fit as he was a fat git. He was letting the side down in the field and thesefore they deliberately put him in the outfield at one stage to teach him a lesson about fitness. He puffed like an old steam engine. Warne retired early because he was a selfish, lazy sod.

There are three advantages to keeping AJ on the senior list.

1) He may recover and be a good long term player.

2) In his predicament he could only command a minimal salary. There is limited impact on the salary cap of keeping him on.

3) There is room for a high performing rookie whether it's Naismith, Perris or a another rookie to be promoted and selected in the Seniors in the early part of the season.

Is Perris back in full training after the LARS?

The answer to the last part is yes!

I agree. He had a great season in 2012 and was only 19. Just think how good he would have been in the last couple of years had he been playing.

And the mythicizing of AJ just keeps growing, the wonder kid who could have been anything. The kid who could have been anything, the kid who hypnotised the sherrin for it to land in his hands and when it didnt and dropped it would bounce right back up.

I think the kid was a good player but not this future superstar that you people are trying to make him out to be.

Are you talking about Murali? Murali did gain some wight towards the end but he wasnt a fat git.

Yep! The kid had a good year in a great side playing against the oppositions 3rd or 4th best forward. If anyone reckons he's going to be a superstar after 2-3 years out and endless knee surgery they are seriously delusional. I'd love to see it happen but its fairy tale stuff.

Who said he was going to be a super star. He was a good player. Both him and Smithy were the best backs in the 2012 finals series. They had blinders against Adelaide and Collingwood, played well in the GF. For young players they were incredibly good. Smithy has now realised his potential, an All Australian. AJ of course has not had the chance to realise his potential due to injury. I don't think any player is a messiah, not even Goodes but I suppose you will disagree and say Goodes is indispensable. As far as I am concerned no player is indispensable, some move on, some get injured and some retire so your list has to be flexible. The strength of your list always depends on the amount of players fighting for a spot in the best 22. If you have under 30 then your list needs to improve to bring it to that level. So JPK12 don't try to muddy the waters as I never said he would be a star! I am not going to put up with people deliberately misinterpreting my comments to justify their stance. Aardvark who said he was going to be a super star? Nobody that I have seen here. But people are saying he had great potential. I wouldn't call players like Gunston, Elliot etc mugs. He played on some really good players even though taking the third. The third best forward in the top 10 sides are generally better or equal to the top 2 in the bottom 8 sides. Goodes, who most people here seem to think is the benchmark, was not really flash when he first started. In fact he shone by being chucked into the deep end in the ruck in yr 2 I think maybe wrong about year. AJ may not come back. He might come back and have lost his mobility, he may come back and slowly build up like Morribito and still be a good player.

Been watching the 2012 series, and AJ was just fine. Best of all as the games progressed he got better and better. Learned on the job . His Granny was terrific.

I don't really understand JPK12's campaign to discredit him at the moment. Noone is saying he was going to be a superstar, but he did pretty damn well for a young player in a Premiership team.
