I'll stick this comment in here for no other reason than its about player trades and possibly trading Jetta.

Arrived at yesterdays game about an hour before the start and had the pleasure of watching Lewis Jetta doing a warm up before the rest of the team came out on the ground to warm up.

We need to do everything we possibly can to keep him. He was casually kicking perfectly executed torpedo punts from inside the centre circle that were going through halfway up the posts with monotonous regularity. Without the netting behind the goals they would have ended 10 rows back.

His skills are sublime, and he is the best disposer of the ball than anyone else in the team. A must keep at all costs. If we do have to trade him, he is a 1st round pick plus a player. He is one of the best distributors of the ball in the AFL at the moment, and other clubs will have to trade fairly or we play hard ball! Stuff this go home crap, if either Freo or WCE want him they need to recognise what a prodigious talent he is. Just like Carlton paid up for Judd. (assuming of course the trade ban is lifted)

Love it! I'd be sad to see Bird go but he deserves to be playing first team footy and his prospects of getting it at the Swans are fast diminishing. He's been a loyal servant, deserves respect and would be great if we could extract some kind of value for him. He is surely the most marketable on MP's list.

Agree with Liz's comments about Robbo.

As for MP's other trade bait suggestions - who on earth would trade for Derickx? I think we'd have a better chance of trading Marsh even if he hasn't played an AFL game, which is a significant call because I'm not that confident someone would pay a meaningful draft pick for him. Conversely if we delist him I think there's a fair chance he'll get picked up by someone - either a WA team or maybe Carlton/Brisbane.

I agree we should be eyeing off GWS defenders and rucks (if we can afford them and get them within our trading restrictions).

Robinson will make a reasonable AFL player, but he isn't going to be a regular at the Swans, considering our depth in the midfield group. Would be good for him to find a club where he will get time on the park, something that isn't going to happen at the Swans.

I agree on both counts. Also we need a good pure ruckman (like big Sammy) not another ruck-forward (like Tippo, Nank) and Daw has not shown enough footy nous, footy skills and around the ground - that's why he is not playing AFL footy.

There is some talk of us settling for a modification of the trading restrictions that permits us to trade for players of equal value. I hope that we don't have to settle for less than its complete removal but, if we do and there is talk of a significant player being traded, I hope it is Sammy Reid traded for someone like Leuenberger in rather than Jetta. We really want to hold on to Jetta if we possibly can. Sammy Reid is a big, athletic, versatile player coming into his prime and is definitely worth a fair bit I reckon. But Jetta is worth more to us. We need his disposal and penetrating kicking, his line breaking ability and his ability to kick exciting goals like few others on our team can. Plus his growing leadership shows his worth too.

As an aside, I'd also like to maintain the indigenous presence at our club and having quality indigenous players may help us to attract more quality indigenous players. 4 on the list will slip to 3 when Goodes leaves and if Jetta goes too we'll have only Buddy and Abe. That said, I don't think that should be too much of a factor - we simply need the best players possible and players should not be excluded just because they're not indigenous. Perhaps it's sentimentality on my part but I'd like to see our great tradition with Magic-Roy-Buddy continue. Magic and Roy are club greats and, I expect, by the time we're finished with Buddy he will be too.

I'd think Robbo would be worth something if Roos wants him. I know I've banged on about this but Bird and Robbo for an early second round pick?

I'd like to keep Towers as I think he is a good squad player and I place Lloyd in the same category.

Maybe we could get a swap of trade picks for Robinson if Melbourne, or another low ranking club, is actually interested (ie; swap 3rd or 4th round picks).

That would be the best we could hope for, to give us a few more points to throw at Mills and Dunkley.

It's hard to pinpoint an obvious deficency. Tall defender? We got reid. Quartback? We have mchack.

Overall is say its silky skills and speed . That makes losing jets a tragedy.

yes we need a ruck man, but Leuenberger had his chance when Martin wasn't playing and show that he was a totally hack.

Never ever should we go for him!.

And Reid is finally showing some real talent; I have been hard on him but we must keep him.

Players like him take five year + to develop and we are now just getting a return on our investment.

We actually don't need to trade; with Mills and maybe Dunk coming, they are real talent, and not just a hope that they will develop into something.

This is a weak draft, so club are not really looking to trade quality for draft picks.

Far better with the AFL restriction in place just to sit back and wait for next year

I think the trade target needs to be a small forward, thats the missing link to me, an eddie betts style forward that just bobs up for a couple cheeky ones!

Heeney in that role will be fine for me

You don't think Isaac has the instinct to be a dynamic small forward? I absolutely do, he has a great leap and he is cat like on the deck when he lands, plus he is very quick.

One he bulks up a bit and gets a bigger engine I can see him being a Nat Fyfe type player but a couple of years up forward learning his craft kicking a 40-50 goals a year would do me....

I think after the last two or three matches that this is the role Brandon is heading for: good mark, good crumber, good kick, faster than either Betts or Milne, developing into a very good tackler, probably underrated by oppositions. Just what we want, and goes well with Heeney.

Not to mention James Rose.
