I've loved the fact that the 2016 provisional draft picks are on the table. It opens the way for more deals.

I think the AFL should let teams deal three drafts in advance e.g. 2018 draft. There would be more deals. More speculation about a teams potential future ladder finish.
And why don't we have a PCFE (Players' Commodity Futures Exchange) where organisations outside the AFL, like Citibank and Goldman Sachs, can bid for players with Commerce degrees, like Mike Pyke, against AFL clubs for their services. Let's just drop all trading restrictions. In a perfect capitalist world maybe Gold Coast would been better off trading Harley Bennell for 38 March 2017 Cocoa contracts and 2 Ukrainian prostitutes.

Free Agency came in because the system in place is a restraint of trade and one legal challenge away from being completely dismantled. Players should be entitled to the club of their choice after 8 years IMO, they are not pieces of cattle they have the same rights as other employees.

What I do see now is players telling clubs where they will be traded, the players seem to hold all the cards. Whether it is because of the veiled threat of legal action I don't know.

In terms of free agency it can work for struggling clubs trying to accelerate a re-build (e.g. Vince at the Dees has been good). I think the current model should be changed whereby the club gaining the free agent loses their pick in the same round that club loses the free agent gains their compo pick. So, last year the Hawks should have lost their first round pick for Frawley as we should have the year before for Buddy
I agree the club gaining the player should be paying in draft value for the draft to keep its 'integrity'. But in the instance of a player getting to the club they want, surely the system is only there to short circuit situations like we had with Spida where a player wants to move, but is kept hostage because of stupid trade demands. If the system worked as an arbitrator for those types of deals then play on.

Otherwise you have a situation where every player in a bottom club naturally wants to shift to a top club to win a flag. And the top club can accommodate because they're not surrendering draft picks.

Is there much chance we'll be doing any more trade activity? Harley's update on Bird sounded like we weren't exactly aggressively shopping him around.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Bird needs to read the recent comments of Matt Rosa and look to leave the Swans.

He has been overtaken by Mitchell and there is limited room for a player of his talents in the a Swans senior side.

He would most likely get a contract to play in 2016-2017 if he made the move to another team.

His Swans contract expires at the end of 2016 and he could be finished if he has a similar season to 2015.

Craig must see that there is $300,000 on the line to play in 2017, but he needs a new team.

I'm not aware of his professional circumstances outside of the Swans. Perhaps, like Leo Barry, he is gunning for an impressive post football career in Sydney.

The Swans could do with an early 3rd round draft pick in 2015 or 2016.

            I'm so glad you're here.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I imagine the Swans are between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

Whilst they might have a little cash in the kitty with Pyke retiring theey probably don't have enough to get the player they want. So even if they trade a 2016 second rounder ort third rounder they can't afford it.

I would think Bird may well end up staying despite it being in his best interests to find a new opportunity. His best years are probably gone and he won't be the type of player to massively improve a side. Unless of course he brings some leadership qualities to the table. I still reckon a club lacking in depth who will still be in re-build the next two years would be a logical destination so Lions, Saints or Demons for mine and I'd expect him to get packaged up with Robbo if he wants out as is rumoured

Here's what I want to see for the rest of trade period.

The Hawks miss Carlisle. And Eddie stiffed on each of Treloar, Aish and Howe.

Oh - and if we somehow nab a Talia or ship Bird or a similar type off for some valuable picks to pay for Mills, all good too.

But seeing Eddie squirm would be enough. That is all.

Actually, I've changed my mind on my earlier thread.

I'd like to see the Hawks miss Carlile, but then use their bargaining chips from Anderson to pinch Treloar or Aish from under Eddie's nose.

Nice way to fracture their love in

The main issue we have with Free Agency is contract validity.
In the US if you get traded or want a trade your contract goes with you, which can make you more valuable.
I.E. if Mccarthy is on $300K next year, his contract should go with him. He cant have 2 yrs to run on minimal money than say he is "homesick" cos Freo are offering $700K over 5yrs.
He needs to sack his manager for signing him on 3 months ago.
Same last year with Beams, he was on about $500K at the pies, he left and got 1.2M with the Lions cos he was "homesick". His father aside, go home on $500K not over twice the money
If you have a deal it should stay with you

Guys like Bird and Robbo are the types that may receive interest late in the trade period...they would both be valuable acquisitions to most teams, however both being from NSW they may not want to leave.

Hampton gone to Crows. Is Seeds still going there? How many back flankers are needed to change a light bulb in Adelaide.

Bird needs to leave and not wait for the club to trade him or he'll end up like Bevan and Moore. Don't know if the club talked to Melbourne about a trade for Watts but watts maybe earning over the league average 355k.

The only other player we seem to be looking at Talia is still being investigated and trade period is half way through, the whole investigation is a joke two brothers talking to each other if thats the case Shaw should have been investigated...
